LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this topic, students should be able to:
1. Discuss the history and development of video
technology;
2. Identify some of the basic components that produce
video; and
3. Identify the various hardware components of a
digital video editing system.

INTRODUCTION
For those unfamiliar with Digital Video (DV)
technology, the prospect of working with cameras
and editing suites is daunting enough, without the
added complication of teaching a whole range of
complex processes to students ofdifferent ages and
abilities. Therefore it might be useful to start with
something which offers an introduction to the
language of moving image, with none of the
problems associated with delicate and expensive
hardware associated with digital film making and
editing.
