● Social learning: Social learning is becoming a hot topic in many L&D departments, as we strive to tap into the engaging, community nature of social media. Totara Learning provides another platform, Totara Social, which engages users in a more collaborative, open way. Totara Social communicates with Totara LMS, so key data can be captured in the LMS too.

● Offline learning: As more and more learning content becomes multi-device, so too must the LMS support this experience. The demand for a fully offline learning experience is very high, but most LMSs must be online to capture and track learning undertaken. To overcome this challenge, Mind Click have developed an Offline Player which will capture learning undertaken, even when offline.

● Open LMS (LRS/Tin Can/xAPI): Tin Can and Learning Record Stores are also seeking to meet the offline learning challenge, but in a different way, allowing many technologies and systems to securely communicate with one another. This includes a range of activities including mobile learning, simulations, virtual worlds, serious games, real-world activities, experiential learning, social learning and offline learning.

● Greater emphasis on blended learning: Many organisations are developing more complex blended solutions which rely heavily on a LMS to bring it all together. Also, a wider trend is a focus on providing resources or allowing learners full access to all of the LMS’s content.
