Introduction to the robotic arm A robotic arm is a machine that can perform functions similar to that of a human. These functions are performed with pre- written programs and no human interaction. Robots are used in many different environments and professions. Robots are used for repetitive motion or activities that have a high risk for humans. Some places where robotic arms are used. Medical Manufacturing Underwater Space Explosive ordnance disposal Welding The Da Vinci surgical system Used to perform precise and surgical procedures. Robotic arms are often used to build complex products. Most every car is now manufactured with the use of many robotic arms. Increase in product quality and reduction in workforce cost. Robots with arms are often used to perform work deep within the ocean. Underwater robots were used to cap the leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico. Robotic arms have been used by NASA for many years to perform operations in space. Satellite deployment and in space repairs often use a robotic arm. Law enforcement and military units around the world use robots. These robots save human life! Robotic arms allow for faster and better quality welds. The picture to the left shows multiple robotic arms welding the floor pan of a car.
