These courses will help students learn the fundamentals of shielded
metal arc welding.
The Introduction to SMAW series is designed for new welding students
who have little or to knowledge of the field. Many of the terms used
are defined or explained throughout the courses, so students are not
required to have a welding vocabulary to understand the content.
This series is intended to be used as an essential component in your
industrial welding preparation program. Each lesson is designed to
provide the background knowledge necessary to develop a fundamental
understanding of shielded metal arc welding. Each lesson has specific
objectives that identify the anticipated level of understanding associated
with the information presented. While we cannot guarantee student
success, our experience indicates that those who complete the training
are likely to accomplish the stated objectives. Furthermore, if these
lessons are built into a total curriculum which includes practice in the
working environment, it will provide students with the knowledge
necessary to master the subject.

O50030 Selection of Electrodes
Purpose: This course shows students how to select the proper electrode for shielded metal arc welding.
Objectives: List the basic safety precautions to observe in electric arc welding and identify the most common electrodes and their characteristics.
O50010 Electric Arc Power Sources & Minor Maintenance
Purpose: This course shows students the basic features of the various types of power sources for electric arc welding. It also demonstrates how to perform minor maintenance on the equipment.
Objectives: Identify the different types of electric arc power sources and their performance characteristics and describe the procedures for performing safety checks on them.
O50020 Safety in Electric Arc Welding & Terms
Purpose: This course shows students some of the safety procedures to follow in shielded metal arc welding and some of the basic terms in electric arc welding.
Objectives: List the safety procedures to follow in shielded metal arc welding and define the basic welding terms used in shielded metal arc welding.
