The course takes the perspective that HRM plays an important and growing role in the success of organizations and effective HRM is a shared responsibility of human resources professionals and the organization’s managers. LEARNING OUTCOMES & OVERALL OBJECTIVES § Introduce the fundamental aspects of HRM critical to organizational effectiveness. § Provide an introduction to the content knowledge of HRM as a basis for further learning and application. § Provide an introduction to the process knowledge of HRM as a basis for developing abilities to participate in applying strategies and tools. § Enhance your teamwork skills through group exercises and in-class engagement. RESOURCES: (1) REQUIRED: Textbook. Steen, Sandra & Noe, Raymond et al. (2019). HRM: Fifth Canadian Edition. Toronto: McGraw-Hill Education. (2) RECOMMENDED: CONNECT McGraw-Hill Education (Self-Study). (3) Links and/or references will be provided for all other readings/videos. It is not necessary to purchase a print edition of the textbook. The e-book (includes CONNECT) may be a lower cost option. PREPARATION & INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS § This course is language heavy from both a teaching and assessment perspective. § I follow the textbook closely; it serves as a helpful resource. § You will benefit significantly from reading the assigned chapter before class. EVALUATION

MID-TERM EXAM 1 | 2 § Format for the Mid-Term Exams will be discussed in class. § If one Mid-Term Exam is missed for any reason the marks will be allocated to the

comprehensive Final Exam. No alternate or re-scheduled Mid-Term Exam will be provided. § If both Mid-Term Exams are missed for any reason, an alternate assignment(s) will be

provided.

FINAL EXAM § Based on the readings in the textbook, assigned readings, videos, exercises, and/or

discussions. The comprehensive final exam will cover Chapters 1-11. Format for the final exam will be provided later in the semester.

Mid-Term Exam 1 25%

Mid-Term Exam 2 25%

Final Exam 50%

Total 100%

RESEARCH PARTICIPATION Up to 2% bonus marks can be earned by participating in research studies in the Faculty of Business Administration, however, availability of these opportunities cannot be guaranteed.
