Read Shop Safety doc.• Cut a scrap piece of scrap & check the

miter saw cut for square 90 degrees both vertical and horizontal.

• Adjust the tilt and degree setting if necessary.

• Check the saw before making finish cuts before each lab.

• Try to use the same miter saw to make your cuts for each project.

More Rules• Always wear safety glasses in the

shop!• Do not side tilt the miter saws in my

class!• Precise work requires exact saw

degree settings, sharp finish blade and good workmanship

Miter Saw & Blade Condition • The miter saw should cut mdf & moudlings with

little resistance.• If you need to force the cut, notify myself or

Peter that the blade may need replacement.• Hold your material firmly with your free hand in

a safe position• Always make cuts in a slow smooth motion.• Always cut you’re your mark to what appears to

be slightly long. 1/16” to 1/32”• You can always trim a board but stretching is

difficult.

Lab # 1• Cut a ¾” x 24”x 30” piece of particle

board on the panel saw• Use a framing square to lay-out the

project drawing shape.• Rip 4” wide scrap pieces of ¾” p.b or

mdf for the side walls.• Write your name legibly• Assembly sequence

Octagon Project Saw Check• Calculate the piece length and angle then

cut the pieces for the octagon frame. Assemble on the back side of your board.

• If all the joints close tight your miter saw degrees are adjusted correctly.

• Important! all the side pieces must be cut exactly the same length.

• I will show an easy method for doing this.
