BLOCK : INDAS Introduction Indas Block Development office is situated in the heart of Indas village under the district of Bankura. It is an hearsay that Indas has been named after a king named Indrahas. It is a flourished village and its development is going day to day at a moderate space The land is mainly an agrarian one. Indas is situated extremely to the eastern side of the district. The Darakeswar river flows gently to the south of this village while the Shali and the Damodar flow to the north of the area. They sometimes cause agony to the people of the catchment areas but the fertile land of those rivers bed offer bumper crops facilitating their livelihood year round.. Swami Bhuteshanandaji Maharaj, the Ex.President of the Ramkrishna Math and Mission was born at Somsar village under this Block. Besides it, Gouri Pandit, a great soul of the religious arena and the contemporary of Thakur Ramkrishna Paramhansadev was also born at Indas.The recent introduction of a railway line extending from Bankura to Rainagar,Burdwan has added a new dimension to the communication map of Indas. There is a wide opportunity to maintain communication from Indas to Burdwan by bus. But it is a sorrowful aspect of this village to maintain an easy communication with the district as it is about 90 K.M. away from this Block.Though most of the villagers depend on agril lands yet a remarkable number of people serve the Government and Non-government institutions. The chief cropof this village is paddy followed by potatoes. It is agriculture which strengthens the economic base of this village and it elevates the village to a prosperous one. The people of this area are fortunate enough as they have fulfilled their long-standing desire with the foundation of the same in 2005 and its educational graph climbs at the zenith. A unique communal harmony is felt in every pulsation of this village. The Hindus, though enjoying majority in number, maintain fraternity with the Muslims and it claims praiseworthy. A Primary Health Centre and its wings provide untiring health service to the common people of this area as well as its neighbourhood. So far drinking water is concerned, the area possesses a bright opportunity for procuring drinking water.In brief, the people of this area, by and large, lead a very peaceful life here and they are solely determined to retain its unity and integrity at any cost.
