Introduction Patterns are a necessary part of our

everyday life.

A mother follows a pattern in making a dress.

A contractor uses a blueprint to build a house.

A cook uses a recipe to make a meal.

An auto mechanic uses a repair manual to fix cars.

Most people understand the need for patterns in their everyday life but they don’t when it comes to the Bible which will determine whether they will spend

eternity in heaven or hell!

Pattern in God’s Creation God created everything and the 7 day week

is a pattern for mankind (Gen. 2:1-3; Ex. 20:11).

Everything reproduces after its own kind [fruit, vegetables, plants, trees, animals,

humans] (Gen. 1:11-12; 24-28)

The seasons, sun, and moon will not cease to exist while the earth remains (Gen.

1:14-18; 8:22).

The directions were decreed by God (Ps. 89:12).

If men reject God’s evidence that He is the Creator they are without excuse (Rom.

1:18ff).

Pattern in the Old TestamentGod gave Noah a blueprint for building the

ark and he obeyed Him to the saving of he and his household’s souls (Gen. 1:13-

22; 1 Peter 3:20).

God gave Moses a pattern of laws on how they must live at Mt. Sinai and a pattern for the tabernacle and its furnishings for

their worship and Moses obeyed Him (Ex. 25:9,40; 40:16).

But the sons of Aaron disobeyed the Lord’s command when they offered strange fire

and suffered death (Lev. 10:1-3).

God demands holiness and obedience!

Pattern in the Old TestamentDavid could not build the Lord a house since

he was a man of bloodshed but he encouraged Solomon to build it according

to the pattern God gave him which he accomplished. (1 Chr. 28:4, 10-

11, 19-20; 2 Chr. 6:2)

Sadly, the Jews disobeyed God by rejecting His word from the prophets and they had to go into Babylonian captivity and the

temple was burned to the ground (2 Chron. 36:14-21).

God demands holiness and obedience!

Pattern in the New TestamentAs God has given to Moses and David the

pattern for the tabernacle and temple under the Old Law, we have been given a pattern of work and worship where Christ is the mediator under the New Covenant

(Heb. 8:5-6; Mt. 28:20).

We are to live a holy life like Jesus did, teach others the gospel, and do good works.

(1 Pt. 1:13-16; 4:1-5; Ti. 2:7; 2 Tim. 2:24-26)

We must worship Him in spirit & truth (John 4:24).

God demands holiness and obedience in the NT. (1 Cor. 10:1-11; 1 Pet. 1:13-16; Heb.

2:1-3)

ConclusionWe have all failed to obey the Lord but there

is grace, mercy, & forgiveness in the pattern through the blood of Christ (1

Tim. 1:12-16).

If you need to submit to God’s pattern for the forgiveness of your sins (Heb. 5:9;

Acts 2:38) or be restored through repentance and prayer as a Christian

(Acts 8:20-22; 1 John 1:9) do it right now (2 Cor. 6:2)!

God will judge according to the pattern & if we reject it, we’ll have judged ourselves unworthy of eternal life (John 12:48-50;

Acts 13:46).

Pattern for Salvation in the NTYou must hear God’s word (Ro. 10:17; John

5:25).

If you don’t believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God you will die in your sins (John

8:24) but faith only will not save you (James 2:24).

If you aren’t willing to repent, you will perish. (Luke 13:3, 5; Acts 17:30-31; 2

Peter 3:9)

If you aren’t willing to confess Him before men, you won’t be saved (Mt. 10:32; Ro.

10:9).

If you aren’t willing to be baptized into Christ, you won’t be saved (Luke 7:29-30;

Acts 2:38; 19:5)
