Types of Interface
2012/12/5
1. Graphical User Interface (GUI)
A type of user interface that allows users to interact with
electronic devices using images rather than text commands
2. Command Lines Interface (CLI)
A means of interaction with a computer program where the user issues commands to the program in the form of successive lines of text (command lines)
Evaluation of GUI and CLI
2012/12/5
GUI CLI
Advantages • More user friendly • Suitable for beginners• More interactive• Ability to embed media
• Can occasionally present certain actions that are completely unavailable in a GUI
• Easy to integrate with scripting and other programmatic interfaces
Disadvantages • Need significantly more memory (RAM) to run
• Take up a much larger amount of hard disk space
• Use more processing power • Can be slow for experienced
programmers to use
• Steeper learning curve• Unsuitable for beginners• Not efficient for
multitasking• Frequent input errors
