Site Location
Milton KeynesCentral Railway
Station
As an international sporting city Milton Keynes Council is proud to be one of the hosts of the Rugby World Cup 2015. The Council and many other organisations are now preparing for this major event and the legacy it can provide.
Following the relocation of the MK Dons to Stadium MK, the old National Hockey Stadium site was sold to Network Rail. Network Rail’s national headquarters has brought with it many benefits for Milton Keynes including jobs and two new multi storey car parks. In order for the offices to be built, Sport England required a replacement playing pitch with ancillary facilities to be built on the immediately adjacent vacant site.
Since 2012 both the Football Association and England Rugby have offered support for the new playing pitch. Network Rail have also offered support.
In the Council’s local plan and the emerging Central Milton Keynes Business Neighbourhood Plan the site is allocated for community sport.
This exhibition seeks your views on the provision of the new sporting facility for Central Milton Keynes.

HISTORY02The National Hockey Stadium
was built in 1995. It was used by England Hockey up until 2003 when they vacated the site due to the high running costs of the artificial surface.
Between 2003 and 2007 the playing pitch was re-laid as grass and was used by the MK Dons. In May 2008 the MK Dons moved to their new home at Stadium MK – where some matches of the Rugby World Cup will be played.
In 2009, Network Rail purchased the site and submitted a planning application for a new UK headquarters office build plus a private and a public multi-storey car park. This was granted permission and opened in the summer of 2012. Part of the planning permission for the Network Rail building was the provision of a new artificial pitch and ancillary changing rooms.

THE PROJECT03With the agreement to host the
Rugby World Cup it is now important that Milton Keynes can offer a suitable legacy training facility. To conform to the planning policies for the area it should also encourage the development of community sport in the future.
Following discussions with stakeholders since 2012 the new sporting facility will now include:
• create a level playing surface;• a fenced flood lit 3G artificial pitch
for use as a football and a rugby playing pitch;
• ancillary changing rooms, a small area for refreshments and a meeting space;
*Additional public parking has already been provided for this replacement sporting facility in the multi-storey car park on the opposite side of the road.• a pair of fenced multi-use games
areas for such activities as junior games, speed and agility training, fitness workouts, tennis or basketball;
• on-site parking*; and• on-site mini bus and disabled
persons parking.
As of 1 September 2014 there are 266 working days to the first match of the Rugby World Cup on 18 September 2015.
To deliver this legacy project on time for the local community the Council will:
• consider the feedback provided to this latest phase of the consultation ;
• continue discussions with stakeholders;
• finalise the details of the project;
• apply for planning permission in October 2014;
• go out to tender for the construction work;
• seek to commence construction on site in early 2015; and
• Open the facility in Autumn 2015.
Your opinions are important to the long term success of this community based project. If you have any views you wish to share with us please send them to our planning advisors at: leisure&[email protected]
Thank you
