Letter from the Dublin City Mayor

To the readers of the 2007 Dublin Community PlanTen years ago, Dubln Cty Councl adopted the second major edton of the Cty’s comprehensve plan. The Dubln Communty Plan has provded a framework for preservng our hertage as well as preparng for our future snce 1988. As we all know, great change can occur n a decade, and your elected representatves determned that the Plan should be updated to approprately reflect the goals and vson of Dubln’s growng communty. More than three years have passed snce that decson was made, and t has been tme well-spent plannng for Dubln’s future.

A major part of ths process nvolved engagng the communty for new deas to shape the drecton of the Plan. The Cty hosted a seres of over twenty sgnficant publc meetngs wth resdents and corporate ctzens. No less than eghteen Jont Work Sessons were held wth Cty Councl and the Plannng and Zonng Commsson to dscuss polcy drecton and publc nput throughout the process.

Resdents, officals, consultants and staff have worked dlgently to craft a Plan that establshes Dubln’s major polcy objectves and strateges. The 2007 Dubln Communty Plan antcpates future needs wth respect to land use, parks and open space, transportaton, nfrastructure and communty facltes. Dubln has also worked wth experts to use state-of-the-art modelng software to support and verfy recommendatons made wthn the Plan. Utlzng land use, transportaton, fiscal and utlty modelng wll ensure that future growth s managed n a way that mantans Dubln’s excellent qualty of lfe and superor publc servces.

The 2007 Dubln Communty Plan represents the Cty’s prmary plannng gude and wll be used to evaluate prvate development requests and make publc decsons regardng development, redevelopment, captal mprovements, economc ncentves and other matters affectng the lves of our resdents and corporate ctzens. On behalf of the Dubln Cty Councl, I thank everyone who partcpated and played a role n the creaton of ths mportant document whch represents the future goals and aspratons of all who call Dubln home.

Sncerely,

Marlee Chnnc-Zuercher Mayor

The 2007 Dubln Communty Plan was made possble through the efforts and contrbutons of many dfferent ndvduals and organzatons over three years. Many publc meetngs were held as part of the plannng process and a sgnficant contrbuton of tme and effort was made by area resdents and polcy makers. The followng partcpants are recognzed for ther contrbutons to ths comprehensve plannng process:

Dublin City CouncilThe Cty of Dubln s governed by the Councl/Manager form of government, combnng the strong poltcal leadershp of elected officals wth the strong manageral experence of an apponted manager. Under ths system, Cty Councl serves as the polcy makng body n the communty, wth ts members elected to represent the communty and to concentrate on polcy ssues that are responsve to ctzens’ needs and wshes. Councl members elect a Mayor and Vce Mayor from ther ranks to serve a two-year term. The Cty Manager s apponted by Councl to carry out long-range polces and to provde for the day-to-day operaton of the Cty.
