Milestone achieved 1/9Message to the SPSC

“The following milestone deliverables were completed and are considered as final: The design of the STRAW chamber including;-          The final straw layout-          The chamber frame-          straw end-pieces-          spacer (straw supports)-          assembly tooling-          web (connection between straw and FE)-          cover (*) with HV, signal and gas connections-          grounding scheme-          FEM calculation for chamber deformation and stresses under vacuum were done and checked-          offers for manufacturing the first module (1/2 a chamber)  have been received (896 straws)”

SPSC reply cont. Next Steps:Besides the construction of the first chamber module

let me provide you some information on still outstanding issues for the STRAW tracker:

-          interface parts between chamber and blue tube (this is planned to start after the chamber design, first layouts exist…)

-          readout ( one proposal  (Tell1 +HPTDC) was tested successfully  in the test beam, however, other options are been discussed)

-          services (gas, electronic racks -> ongoing work inline with other sub-detectors)

-          support for chamber in the experiment (preliminary design available)

-          installation tooling (ongoing work)

Delivery and plansThe assembly and full QC of the geometry will

be added to the initial contract.Delivery ~1 November (estimate)Meaning full speed on turning table and other

components required for the start-up of the assembly!

Summary and ConclusionWe are switching to production….

Module 0 frame in November and start straw insertion in January

A few critical issues/decisions in the fall (Dec.): Full straw validation (material, metallization and welding) FE choice from studies in the lab and test beam results in

2010 Choice for the readout (three options at present)

Last but not least: Thanks to everybody who contributed to the finalization of the TD in time!!
