1.1 Preface

The emphasis of this chapter is on stating overview of the overall project. It starts with the brief introductory to the project title and objective of the study. This is followed by problem statements and methods available to its problem solving. The chapter also discusses the limitation of the project which may influence how it would be managed.1.2 Project title

Alert System and Notification for Refrigerator Door1.3 Introduction

The ability to control items around the house automatically is what home automation is. Imagine that we can simply turn on and off devices just by our smartphone without the need for us to get up and turn the switch. It does make the task easier. Refrigerator is one of the home appliances that users always overlooked about. Some of the users have a child that loves to play with the switch, and what if that switch is the switch for the refrigerator. Refrigerator that is switched off for some time need more power and longer time to cool it down back which, in the meantime can spoil the food. Children also always do not shut the refrigerator properly. But what if there is an application that can notify the user the current state of the switch, and what if there is an application to notify the user so that they can shut it back properly That could save a lot of money in terms of the energy need for the refrigerator to cool it back is cut off and there are no more spoiled food. 1.4 Problem statement

a. People sometimes dont realize when their fridge does not close properly.

b. Food can be spoiled and energy can be wasted when the door does not close properly.

1.5 Aim and Objectives

1.5.1 Aim

To develop Alert System and Notification for Refrigerator Door1.5.2 Objective

The objectives of the systems are:

To enable the refrigerator to detect that its door is left open for certain a period of time. To enable the refrigerator to alert the user that its door is left open for a certain period of time. To enable the user to control or close the refrigerator door remotely.1.6 Scope of the Project

1. When the door of the refrigerator is left open after certain period of time, the sensor will send the status to the ZigBee.2. ZigBee that receive the status of the sensor that tells the door of the refrigerator is left open will send the data to the alarm so that it can alert user by the sound it made.

3. The user can either closed it manually or control it by their android based smartphone.

4. If the user does not hear the sound of the alarm, after another certain period of time, the ZigBee will then send data through wireless, so that the user can be notified by their android based smartphone.

5. The user then can either closed it manually or control the refrigerator door using their android based smartphone.

6. The user needs to be in the wireless coverage to allow them to receive notification and also to control the refrigerator door.

1.8 Expected Product

This application is an android application. The sensor will detect the door is left open after certain period of time and will send the status of the refrigerator door to the ZigBee.

The sound of alarm can alert the user about the refrigerator door is left opened The ZigBee can notify user through wireless adapter to the user by their Android based smartphone about the refrigerator door is left opened.

The user can control the refrigerator door using their Android based smartphone.

The user has to be in the wireless coverage to receive notification and also to control the refrigerator door.

1.9 Conclusion

By developing this application, user that has small children that always does not close refrigerator properly will be notifying that the refrigerator door is left opened. By able to detect and also to control the refrigerator will help user a lot in term of saving the energy and also to avoid food spoiled.
