Introducing Me!Pixie 2


Introduction

You will complete two activities to introduce yourself and print themas a table tent.

Open Pixie.

Click the Start menu button.

Click All Programs, click the Tech4Learning folder, click the Pixie 2folder, and click Pixie 2.

Pixie will open.

You will see a blank picture.

Open an Activity

You can complete Activities in Pixie.

Click the Open button on the toolbar.

You will see the Open Picture window.



Click the Activities button in the list on the left.

You will see the Activities folders.



Click the All About Me folder.

Click the Open button.



You will see the contents of this folder.

Click the Black and White folder.


You will see black and white activities.

Click the My Picture activity.




The My Picture activity will open.

Type Text in a Text Object

You can add text to the text object on this picture.

The text object is in the banner at the bottom of the frame.



Click the �Double-click here to add text� text.

You will see green handles around the text object.

Double-click the text object.

You will see a blinking cursor.

Type your name.

Click the picture away from the text object.



Use the Shape Tool

You can use the Shape tool to paint a circle for your face.

Click the Shapes tool on the tool palette.

You will see shapes in the Options panel on the right.

Click the circle shape.

Click the Fill check box below the shapes.



Click your skin color on the color palette.

Move the cursor over the picture.

It will change to a crosshair.

Move the cursor to the upper left area of the circle on the picture.



Click and drag the cursor diagonally to the lower right area.

You will see a circle.



Use the Undo Button

You can undo your work if you don�t like the circle you painted.

Click the Undo button the toolbar.



The circle you painted will undo.

Use the Paint Brush Tool

You can use the Paint Brush tool to paint on a picture.

Click the Paint Brush tool on the tool palette.

You will see the brush options on the right.

Click the brush shape on the left.

Click and drag the Size slider so that is it under the 3D circle.

Click a color on the color palette that matches your hair color.

You will see this color in the box next to the color palette.



Move the cursor over the picture.

It will change to a paint brush.

Move the cursor to the place you want to start painting your hair.

Click and drag the cursor to paint with the Paint Brush tool.

Let go of the mouse button.

Click and drag the Paint Brush cursor to finish painting your hair.



Click the Undo button on the toolbar if you want to try again.

Click a color on the color palette that matches your eyes.

Move the cursor over the picture where you want to start paintingone of your eyes.



Click and drag to paint with this color.


Move the cursor where you want to start painting your other eye.

Click and drag to paint your eye.



Click a red color on the color palette for your mouth.



Move the cursor over the picture where you want to start paintingyour mouth.

Click and drag to paint your mouth.





Save

You can save this Pixie file.

Click the Save button on the toolbar.

You will see the Save Picture As window.

Type your name.

You will see this in the Save As field.



Click the Save button.

Open Another Activity

You can make a different picture for the back of your table tent.

Click the Open button the toolbar.

You will see the Open Picture window.

You will still see the Black and White Activities folder.



Click the I Like activity.




The activity will open.

Click the Arrow tool on the toolbar.



You will see a place for your name at the top right corner of thepicture.

Double-click the �Double-click here to add text� text.

Type your name.

Add a Sticker

You can add clip art stickers to your picture.

Click the Stickers tab.

You will see the folders in the Stickers library.



Click the Animals folder.



Click the folder icon in the lower right corner of this folder.

You will see the animals folders.

Click the Pets folder.


You will see the stickers in the Pets folder.

Click your favorite kind of pet.

Click the green arrow in the lower right corner of the picture.



The sticker will be added to the picture.

Click the Home button at the top of the Stickers.



You will see all of the folders in the Stickers library.

Click the Food folder.


You will see the food folders.

The Stickers field has a scrollbar on the right.



Move the cursor over the middle of the scrollbar.

Click and drag the scrollbar so you can see the Snacks folder.


Click the Snacks folder.

Click the folder icon in the lower right corner.

You will see the contents of the Snacks folder.

Click your favorite kind of snack food.



Click the green arrow in the lower right corner of the picture.

The sticker will be added to the picture.

It will be on top of your favorite pet.



Move a Sticker

You can move a sticker to a new place on the picture.

Move the cursor over the sticker of your favorite snack.

You will see the cursor change to four arrows.

Click and drag the sticker to the left side of the heart.




Move the cursor over the sticker of your favorite pet.

Click the mouse button to select it.

Click and drag the sticker to the right side of the heart.




Resize a Sticker

You can resize a sticker.

The sticker of your favorite pet is still selected.

Move the cursor over one of the green handles on the corner of thesticker.

You will see the cursor change to two arrows.



Click and drag to resize the sticker.

Drag away from the sticker to make it larger.

Click the sticker of your favorite snack.

You will see green handles around it.

Move the cursor over one of the green handles on the corner.

Click and drag to resize the sticker.



Drag away from the sticker to make it larger.

Click the picture away from the stickers.

Practice with Stickers

Click the Home button on the Stickers tab.



Click and drag the scrollbar and find the Sports and Leisure folder.

Click the folder icon to open the folder.

Open the folders inside.

Add a sticker of your favorite sport.

Move the sticker.

Resize the sticker.

Use the Paint Bucket Tool

You can use the Paint Bucket tool to fill an area with color.

Click the Paint Bucket tool on the tool palette.



You will see the fill options on the right.

Click your favorite color on the color palette.

Move the cursor over the middle of the heart.

It will change to a paint bucket.

Click the mouse button.

The heart will fill with your favorite color.



Save

Click the Save button on the toolbar.

You will see the Save Picture As window.



Type your name.

Press the Space bar on the keyboard.

Type: Likes.

You will see this name in the Save As field.

Click the Save button.

Print a Table Tent

You can print your pictures as a table tent. This will print one piece ofpaper with both of your pictures.

Click the File menu and click Print All.



You will see the Print Pictures window.

Click the Table Tent picture.



You will see the Print window.



Click the OK button.

The pictures will print.

Fold the paper in half and put it on your desk as a table tent.

Conclusion

Click the File menu and click Exit.

Congratulations! You now know the basics of Pixie.
