CNNOG

As data networks have developed remarkably in China, we are taking the initiative for China Network Operators’ Group (CNNOG). This is in line with mature practices like NANOG in North America, RIPE NCC Meetings in Europe , APRICOT in Asia and Pacific Region and NOGs in some countries. The meeting will provide a regional forum to discuss operational issues and hot technologies from vendors for network operators in China.

• Members– About 10 Committee members– 100+ registered members– Instant Message (QQ) Group & Mailing List– Steering Committee and Program Committee

• Organization– Organized by several core members right now– Non-profit voluntary group – Is now not a legal entity, and there is no formal

organization and donated housing.– Operated through the Internet– It is difficult to register a non-profit nongovernm

ental organization in China– In order to survive, we are attempting to coop

erate with Gov’s similar association

• Funds– There is no fund support, so originally from

personal funds– We hope all funds come from conference

registration fees and donations from vendors, but we still need time to accumulate

• Cooperation– We cooperate with the China Gov's telecom

association right now, through them we can keep a closer contact with Gov owned network operators

– A few vendors in telecom industry give us great support as well.

• Meetings– held two times each year– membership is open and free to register– participants typically include senior engineering

staff from operators and vendors– Speakers from vendors, researchers and policy

makers

• CNNOG 1 held in Beijing on 9-10 January, 2005

• CNNOG 1 was to establish the procedure for future meetings and obtain a consensus for such a group.

• CNNOG 2 held in Beijing on 8-9 Nov., 2005

• CNNOG 2 held as the Second Annual Conference on China’s Communication Network Operation and Maintenance, cooperate with China Communication Network O&M Committee (COMC)

– net-ops from almost all carriers and isps, such as China Telecom, China Netcom, China Mobile, China Uninet, Sina, Sohu, 263…
