I teach high school math (both traditional and online)– Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. I also taught Statistics at the college level. Prior to becoming a teacher, I spent a brief time as an accountant for an east coast bank. I realized that cubicle life is not for me.

I spent 17 years playing and coaching volleyball. I gave it up to spend time with my family. I enjoy being a wife and taking care of my family. I miss playing, although I don’t know that my body would agree.

Education and InterestsEducation and Interests

I have a Bachelor’s degree is Economics and Math from Lycoming College. I had plans to move to Washington D.C. after graduation, but some family situations kept me closer to home.

While teaching at a private school, I earned my master’s degree in education and secondary math teaching certification. A year later, I returned to school for my K-12 Principal’s Certification. I will be starting my doctoral degree this fall.

It was through these experiences that I figured out that I learn best by seeing information and doing tasks for myself. It is difficult for me to process information when I can only hear it; I need to see it for myself.

This is my husband, Jim. We went to college together, but did not meet until 3 years after graduation.

We love Disney World! We got engaged and married at Disney. I don’t know how you can look at Mickey and not smile!

Multimedia in my classroom

Multimedia in my classroom

My experience with project based learning happened in my science classes growing up, where we were required to design and conduct experiments. Then, we drew conclusions, wrote up a paper and prepared a display. It was a great way to connect concepts.

Pennsylvania currently has a grant program to help bring computers and technology to the classrooms. Through this program, I had the opportunity to use a classroom set of laptops for a few weeks as a pilot program. It was a great experience that, in a short amount of time, showed students the many places where math can be used. This was really my first experience with interactive media in my classroom. In the spectrum of technology, I find myself in the middle. The basics of Powerpoint are well in my comfort zone. I can use more practice and direction in working with audio and animation. I was briefly introduced to Google Docs in a previous graduate course, but would like to incorporate it into my classroom.Finally, Wikis will be a new adventure for me. I am looking forward to seeing the learning possibilities.
