WELCOME back to St Luke’s as we gather to give thanks to God for his faithfulness and to pray together for our family and friends and the wider world. Of necessity and to conform with HM Government’s Guidelines we will for some time have to truncate our liturgy and follow certain practices to ensure safe distancing and minimise any threat to health. Your co-operation and understanding is appreciated.

Various notices are set out around the Church but in summary the following will be our Modus Operandi:

* Maintain social distance

* Please clean your hands on arrival and as you depart the Church.

* Please enter through the West Door on Gibbon Road and exit through the Porch Doors on Burton Road.

* Pews should be occupied in the identified available alternate rows.

* A one way system will operate around the Church.

* Communion will be in one kind only.

Fr Martin will hold up the Host and say “The Body of Christ” to which the people should reply “Amen”. The Sacrament will then be administered and received in silence.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING Zechariah 9:9-10 (ESV)A reading from the Book of the Prophet Zechariah. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYERPriest: The Lord be with you.People: And with your spirit.Priest: Lift up your hearts.People: We lift them to the Lord.Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.People: It is right and just.

Priest: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For out of compassion for the waywardness that is ours, he humbled himself and was born of the Virgin; by the passion of the Cross he freed us from unending death, and by rising from the dead he gave us life eternal. And so, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominions, and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim: All: Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The people KNEEL

During this prayer, by the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ.

After the Lord’s Words of Institution:

Priest: The mystery of faith. All: We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.

Priest: At the Saviour’s command, and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say

All: Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.

Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may always be free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you: look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: And with your spirit.

The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures. R.

All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord, and your friends shall repeat their blessing. They shall speak of the glory of your reignand declare your might, O God. R.

The Lord is faithful in all his wordsand loving in all his deeds. The Lord supports all who falland raise up all who are bowed down. R.

SECOND READING Romans 8:9, 11-13 (ESV)A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. The Word of the Lord.People: Thanks be to God.

Priest: A reading from the holy Gospel according to MatthewAll: Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

HOMILY The people SIT

NICENE CREED The people STANDI believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven: All KNEEL: and by the power of the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sinsand I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
