One of the main aims of mindfulness is to have a healthier relationship with our minds,
and in particular with the chattering thoughts that can feel like they consume us.
The first stage is to become aware of thoughts and to try to see them clearly. You are
not your thoughts, instead you are the one that hears your thoughts. The ability to
hear your thoughts with awareness can mean they lessen their grip on you, and instead
you can choose to accept the thoughts or allow them to pass by. This gives you more
space to focus.
Try this 5 minute mindfulness exercise and see if you can notice your thoughts coming
and going without getting carried away with them.
A key learning point here is that a busy mind full of thoughts is normal, and
mindfulness is never about pushing them away, instead it's about accepting them &
letting them pass by.
This short course is intended to give you a flavour of mindfulness and the benefits of
making it a habit in your everyday life. We have also included a couple of mindfulness
exercises to help you get started today.

We are passionate about mindfulness and about encouraging more people to use it to
access what we regard as the superpower hidden within us all. If you are looking to get a
break from the mundane, recharge your energy and squeeze more fun out of life then
take the first step now by switching off your phone and notifications and spending the
next 20 minutes completing this course.
Were you aware of your mind wandering? Did you find it easy or difficult to keep
your focus on your breath? Did you feel any emotions rising within you during the
exercise? How pleasant or unpleasant was the whole experience? Did these 5 minutes
feel like 2 minutes or 2 hours?

For busy people with busy minds
Our courses are intended for busy people who want the benefits of mindfulness without
spending years perfecting meditation techniques.
Little and often is good when it comes to being mindful, start today even if you only
have 5 to 10 minutues to spend on the breathing exercise you have just completed.
Throughout the day you can try this exercise without the need to take any time out of
your daily tasks.
How to make mindfulness part of your daily routine
'Mindfulness isn't difficult, we just need to remember to do it.' Sharon Salzberg
WATCH THE SHORT VIDEO ON 'HOW TO MAKE MINDFULNESS PART OF YOUR DAILY
ROUTINE.'
Like any new habit, it will take time and repetition before it becomes part of your daily
routine, and practising mindfulness is the only way you can access the results. There are no
shortcuts or hacks, it’s about investing the time and effort.
Before you decide you don’t have time, think about this. We spend approx. 50% of our
waking life mind wandering, and when researchers recorded happiness levels we were
always happier in the present moment. Not mind wandering. Mindfulness keeps us in the
present moment, where life happens, so why not start practicing today. Even if you have very
little time, something like mindfully washing your hands can get you on the path to
mindfulness.
How easy or difficult did you find it to concentrate on the one task you were doing?
Note down how it felt, how often your mind wandered and if concentrating on the
task in hand changed it in any way? Perhaps you noticed something different when
you kept your focus on the task.
