This is a time of celebration for Seagull Services as we are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. For 4 decades we have served individuals with developmental disabilities in the greater Palm Beaches. We also celebrated the arrival of our new President and Chief Executive Officer, Dan Stanislawczyk, who has infused new energy into Seagull and brings great ideas for the future. Mr. Stanislawczyk comes to us with over two decades of experience in education and in developing programs for people with special needs.

Under Mr. Stanislawczyk’s leadership, we will continue Seagull’s legacy of quality services, and look for new ways to serve our program participants. In addition, our committed Board of

Directors is excited about enhancing the programs at Seagull and the new opportunities that are to come.

We have already seen an exciting expansion of many of our programs, including supported employment and internship programs at our charter school, Seagull Academy for Independent Living (SAIL). The Achievement Center continues to offer specialized services for senior adults, and work that provides an income to the program participants.

My sincere thanks to all who have supported Seagull to make this year a success. I look forward to working with the talented Seagull staff, our dedicated Board of Directors, and our community stakeholders who have supported Seagull’s mission, especially Town of Palm Beach United Way, Lost Tree Village Charitable Foundation, United Way of Palm Beach County, Mary Alice Fortin Foundation, and The Board of County Commissioners for their generous contributions.

I want to thank the staff and the Board of Directors for the warm welcome I have received since joining Seagull Services in June 2019. I am excited to start this chapter of my professional career by celebrating the 40th anniversary with Seagull. I hope that with my leadership we can expand our programs and continue to do the great work that Seagull and Seagull Academy for Independent Living (SAIL) provide for our community.

Seagull will continue to expand the array of programs offered to children and adults with disabilities. My focus during my tenure will be to increase our work with local businesses and

organizations. This will enable us to provide more employment opportunities for our clients. As the demand for specialized programs for older adults with developmental disabilities continues to grow, we will continue to refine and expand our programs.

The Achievement Center continues to be busy and our clients are working hard on fulfillment and light packaging orders. We have a beautiful new cafeteria and senior room. We have made additions to our art program expanding access to more enriched programing that meets the needs of our Seagull Family.

Seagull Academy for Independent Living (SAIL) continues to provide educational and innovative programs for the students at the charter school. We also have been successful in expanding our Vocational Education and Supported Employment programs.

SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE

During the summer of 2018, a very active hurricane season, Seagull Services’ program participants packaged millions of hurricane shutter fasteners destined for big box stores throughout the coastal states. The agency’s contract with longtime business partner AMF Building Products was its largest to date. It is one of many business partners that provide packaging and light assembly work for Seagull’s program participants. AMF and others whose products or orders are seasonal or sporadic are ideal business partners as Seagull’s inclusive workforce can ramp up as needed.

Other new business partners contracting with Seagull in the last year were Times Microwave Systems, Inc.; Bravado Holdings, LLC, and Promotional Concepts Team. Seagull specializes in fulfillment, light assembly, and packaging and shipping through its warehouse.

Seagull Services’ Supported Employment program took a major leap in 2018-19 with a new director and job coaches, who have forged relationships with businesses and opened doors to employment for many of Seagull’s teens and adults. With the help of the Supported Employment program, individuals were hired at Publix, Dunkin’ Donuts, DD’s Fashion, Culver’s Restaurant, and El Bodegon.

The Supported Employment program begins with pre-employment skills such as workplace etiquette. It includes assistance with the job search, including Career exploration, resume writing, and mock interviews. It continues once a person lands a job with on-the-job coaching and back-up that extends as long as needed.

Seagull Services also started its very successful Employment Launch program, which provides a two-week intensive jump-start to the job search for individuals with disabilities. To date, more than 45 people have gone through the course.

Seagull’s Adult Day Training program provides a safe, supervised environment for more than 100 adults with developmental disabilities who range in age from their 20s to their 80s. The services are as diverse as the participants. For many, The Achievement Center is their place of work. They complete jobs each day for Seagull’s Business Services division. For others who are not suited to work because of disabilities or age, Seagull provides activities and field trips suited to their interests and abilities.

Last year, Seagull’s program participants enjoyed taking part in some noteworthy projects. They presented their own Black History Month program, Sketches in Black History. In March during Developmental Disability Awareness Month, they researched 8 celebrities with disabilities who are renowned for their accomplishments, and presented a program on each called, Seeing Us in a Different Light.
