1:1 DeafBlind Intervener- Paraprofessional / Teacher Aide Job Description Class: 8:1:1 Dept: Special Education / School for the Deaf Position: Intervener for a 7 year old deafblind student who attends a school for the Deaf in Queens, NY. An Intervener is a position designated to provide direct support to a student who is deafblind as determined by the student’s IEP. An intervener is necessary for the student to participate effectively in his environment and serves as a bridge between him and the world. The intervener works cooperatively with the parents and a variety of direct service providers such as: classroom teacher, teacher of the vision impaired, speech therapists, occupational and physical therapists, and other professionals. The intervener will have ongoing communication with the state DeafBlind Project. Title: DeafBlind Intervener Paraprofessional / Teacher Aide Qualifications: 1. Experience with and/or desire to work with students with dual sensory impairments 2. Must be willing and complete 33 hrs of FREE DeafBlind training. Experience will individuals who are deafblind preferred but not necessary. 3. Must be knowledgeable and have a moderate level of ASL. Reports to: Appropriate administrative staff Responsibilities:

Class: 8:1:1

Dept: Special Education / School for the Deaf

Position: Intervener for a 7 year old deafblind student who attends a school for the Deaf in Queens, NY. An Intervener is a position designated to provide direct support to a student who is deafblind as determined by the student’s IEP. An intervener is necessary for the student to participate effectively in his environment and serves as a bridge between him and the world. The intervener works cooperatively with the parents and a variety of direct service providers such as: classroom teacher, teacher of the vision impaired, speech therapists, occupational and physical therapists, and other professionals. The intervener will have ongoing communication with the state DeafBlind Project.

Qualifications:

Reports to: Appropriate administrative staff

Responsibilities:

1. The intervener assists the deafblind student to actively participate in his daily activities and provides a support and access to his environment in which the student can learn.

2. The intervener works under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher, and participates in the IEP meetings and assists in developing and implementing the student’s IEP

3. Creates instructional materials and modifies classwork as needed 4. Follow all rules, policies and procedures of the school

Salary:

$35/hr - 35 hours per week and optional 5 hours at student’s home
