YCG – ADVANCED INTERNSHIP ROGRAM 2014

CONTRACT: 100 VOLUNTEER HOURS & 200 PAID HOURS ($11.00/hr)

PROGRAM: YOUNG CITY GROWERS – YOUTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Young City Growers is seeking to fill four advanced intern positions through the Young City Growers – Youth Internship
Program in partnership with KW Habilitation. Young City Growers interns accepted into the program will be expected to
complete 200 paid and 100 volunteer hours during 2014 growing season. YCG Interns will be expected to complete at
least 25 of their 100 volunteer hours before qualifying for their paid hours. Volunteer hours will involve attending team
meetings and training workshops, planting and harvesting, and engaging in other community building and food advocacy
opportunities that become available through the internship year. Paid internship hours will involve working alongside
the YCG leadership team to create, run and maintain a new therapeutic urban market garden space in Waterloo in that
will provide programming and interactive opportunities to KW Habilitation clients. The internship will also involve
gardening alongside and providing support to participating members of the KW Hab community with developmental
disabilities. The Young City Growers – Youth Internship Program is developed to engage youth in an opportunity to
develop skills in entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, community advocacy, public speaking and career
development.
Applicants considered for the Young City Growers – Advanced Internship Program need to be between 18 and 30 years
of age or have graduated from the 2013 YCG Youth Internship Program and will need to demonstrate interest/volunteer
or work experience in social environmental and/or food justice issues.
