IT WORKS BOTH WAYS
US MARKET –THE TRUCK PLAYERS
Paccar is the last remaining wholly owned US truck manufacturer building Peterbilt / Kenworth which are seen as vocational trucks
Daimler Trucks owns Freightliner / Western Star / Fuso Canter and Thomas Bus
Volvo owns Volvo North America, Mack Trucks and UD
Navistar owns International Trucks and Traton recently bought 17% of them with a view to further “investment”.
Isuzu Trucks with similar UK line-up
Hino Trucks
US MARKET – THE VAN PLAYERS
Daimler first to the market with Sprinter badged as Freightliner and sold through truck network only. Then became Daimler Chrysler
and sold through “Dodge Business Class” network as Dodge Sprinter. After sale of
Chrysler to Fiat (FCA) back to Daimler. Now Daimler have split Trucks and Van – MB Vans and Andy Lawson ( ex MBUK) is the Managing Director. Recently brought over Vito badged
as Metris.
Ford – Post recession Ford decided to bring over both the New Transit and Transit
Connect ( There is no Custom) and infact Transit V363 was launched in the US BEFORE UK, first time ever. Have been market leader with 1950’s designed E350 and now Transit
for over 40 years.
US MARKET –THE VAN PLAYERS
FCA, have Dodge Ram brand which is now split with Dodge for B2C and Ram B2B. FCA have brought over the Ducato ( Ram ProMaster) and Doblo ( Ram ProMaster City).
GM – they are the disaster in the market as they couldn’t bring the Combo over ( Fiat Doblo) nor the Movano as the US wasn’t part of agreement so have lost market share. Brought in Nissan NV200 and re-badged as Chevvy City Express but dropped last year. Still not sorted themselves out – but there maybe news………
Nissan – Have the NV200 ( the only truly global van platform) and these are supplemented by their own North American products NV1500, NV2500 and NV3500
US MARKET –THE PICKUP PLAYERS
The US market is a “Full-size” and “Mid-size” pickup market
Ford have the largest selling pickup / car in the US in the F150 and goes up a F750, which looks nothing like a pickup !! They have also recently re-introduced the Ranger which also a includes a diesel option made in Dagenham.
FCA have the Ram 1500 - 3500
GM have two products in the market which are “badge-engineered” the Chevvy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. They have a mid –size called the GMC Canyon, ChevvyColorado
Nissan Frontier Nissan Titan
Toyota Tacoma Toyota Tundra
