You will have the opportunity to add valuable work experience to your resumé by applying for work on-campus, off-campus and after graduation.

The University of Windsor provides various job opportunities on campus for international students.

Working Off-Campus*International students can gain work experience by working off campus while completing their studies.

Field Placements/PracticumsMost of our academic programs have practical experience built right in, and some offer field placements and practicums.

Volunteer Internship Program (VIP)VIP students participate in supervised situations at field sites, working with various non-profit or not-for-profit community agencies and government offices. They contribute at least 40 hours of volunteer work over a 10-week period to gain career-related, work experience.

Co-operative Education (Co-op)Our co-op programs allow students to combine their academic studies with paid work experience.

Post-graduation Work Permit*The Canadian government allows international students who have graduated from a recognized Canadian academic institution to work in Canada for up to a maximum of three years.

Minimum Admission Requirements for Undergraduate ProgramsAfrica and Asia

Countries following the British System - Advanced level standing on the GCE or equivalent as listed under the United Kingdom.

Other African and Asian Countries - Senior Matriculation and/or completion of First Year at a recognized university depending upon country.

Bangladesh

Higher Secondary Certificate/Intermediate Certificate.

Central and South America

Senior Matriculation and/or completion of First Year at a recognized university depending upon country.

China (PRC)

Senior High School Graduation Examination + Chinese National University Entrance Examinations.

Europe

The Senior Matriculation Certificate as required by a recognized university in that country.

India

All-India Senior School Certificate awarded by CBSE/Indian School Certificate (awarded by ICSE)/completion of Standard XII as awarded by one of the

official state boards of India.

International Baccalaureate

Full diploma must be completed with passes in six subjects with at least three at the Higher Level and with a grade total of at least 24 and no mark

less than 4. In addition, the candidates must meet the prerequisites specific to the Faculty to which they are seeking admission.

Malaysia

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM); Certificate of Unified Examination of the Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools

System (MICSS).

Middle East

The Senior Matriculation Certificate as required by a recognized university in that country.

Pakistan

Intermediate/Higher Secondary School Certificate.

United Kingdom and Commonwealth

Five Passes on the General Certificate of Education including two at the Advanced Level or, four passes on the General Certificate of Education,

including three at the Advanced Level. A minimum grade of D is required in the Advanced Levels.

Science and Engineering must include Advanced Level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; Nursing must include Advanced Level English, Biology

Ontario and Other Canadian Provinces

The OSS Diploma (or equivalent) and six Grade 12 U or M courses, including ENG4U, are required. All programs require a minimum admission

English Language Proficiency

If your native language is not English, you must demonstrate proficiency in it to be considered for admission. This can be done in the following ways:

For Undergraduate Programs:

1. Successful completion of the University’s English Language Improvement Program with a grade of 75%; or

2. A minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or

3. A minimum score of 60 on the Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL); or

5. A minimum score of 83 with essay 20 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based Test (IBT); or

6. A minimum score of 60 for the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic; or

7. Successful completion of at least three years of formal, full time study (not less than four courses per semester) at an accredited English language secondary or post-secondary institution.

English Language Improvement Program (ELIP)

If you have not met English Proficiency requirements, ELIP is the program for you. ELIP is a comprehensive, year-round English language program designed to prepare non-native

speakers of English with the language skills necessary for university study. Successful completion of ELIP level 3 satisfies the English Language Proficiency Requirement for admission to the University of Windsor at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Summary of ELIP:

• Student-focused program with small classes to accommodate individual needs and learning goals.

• Five progressive program levels (Basic English, ELIP Foundation, ELIP 1, ELIP 2, ELIP 3).

Masters Admission

A student with a four-year degree or equivalent in the discipline to which s/he is seeking admission, and who has an academic standing of at least 70% (Canadian equivalent) in the final two years of study may be admitted to a Master’s program.

PhD Admission

An applicant for admission to a graduate program leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy must have either a Master’s degree or, in exceptional cases, a four-year Bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent; his or her academic standing should be unquestionably superior.

English Language Proficiency

A satisfactory score on an English proficiency test is required for all applicants whose native language is not English. The requirements for English proficiency vary by program, please visit www.uwindsor.ca/grad for information.

GRE/GMAT

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Assessment Test (GMAT) scores are required for certain graduate programs.

Scholarships

Applicants who also wish to be considered for scholarships must submit a complete application package by the following earlier deadlines: May 1 for September admission; September 1 for January admission; January 1 for May admission.
