Why V.18 Conformance testing is Important

Specified in V.18 Recommendation Appendix 4 Ensures interworking between textphonesSmall volumes and lack of competition between textphone manufacturers means they are not subject to the same market forces to ensure interoperability.

Benefits the deaf and hard of hearingTo maximise the benefits of V.18, all features should be implemented - automoding, all compatibility modes, V.18 universal transfer mode, etc. Verification of various implementations ensures these benefits are gained.

What is TexBox?

TexBox is a text gateway which connects hard of hearing, deaf or speech impaired customers who use textphones, to almost anyone in the organisation or business via existing internal computer network (LAN or WAN), where the textphone call is routed via menu system to a relevant person’s PC.

PC platform running Linux (Unix).

Custom designed and built V.18 hardware text modems which connect to standard analogue telephone lines.

Connection to the local area network via 10/100 Base T Ethernet connection.
