Preface

Our very special thanks go to the members of the Scientific Committeewho put a lot of personal engagement in helping to select topics andrenowned speakers to make this symposium a useful tool for everyendoscopist in his every-day clinical practice.

4. International Symposium on Complications in GI Endoscopy

Pre

face Dear friends and colleagues,

Being committed endoscopists we are all concerned that even minorinvasive procedures may have side effects which might result in a so-called complication. The evolving advances, not only in image quality but also in invasive or surgical concepts, need a permanent process of reflection.

As in the years before the aims of the symposium are to

identify critical incidents and complications

communicate unforeseen events

develop strategies to avoid or minimise complications

demonstrate therapeutical measures for the eventuality of a complication

which we will discuss under technical, procedural, ethical, psychologicaland legal aspects.

The 2015 symposium has two innovations: We are pleased towelcome our dear friend Nageshwar Reddy as co-director of the symposium. In conjunction with our scientific committeemembers, we aim to build a bridge between Europe and the Asia Pacific region.

Let’s talk aboutcomplications

25-27June 2015

Preface

A highlight of our symposium will be the state-of-the-art lectureby Dr. Jerome D. Waye, one of the most dynamic and engagedpromoters of colonoscopy worldwide and we are honoured that he accepted our invitation to share his experiences during his keynote lecture: Colonoscopy – why there is no alternative!

Honorary president of the 4. International Symposium onComplications in GI Endoscopy is Prof. Dr. Drs. h.c. MeinhardClassen. Meinhard Classen’s importance for modern endoscopyis legendary, he influenced therapeutic endoscopy like no other, for example, by introduction of ERCP and EPT. He received prizes for his scientific work all over the world and we are proud that he accepted to be again honorary president of this symposium.

We invite you to come to Hannover from 25-27 June 2015,listen to the experts’ lectures and share your experiences withthe other participants in our working groups. We especiallyencourage you and your co-workers to send in relevant abstracts.Selected abstracts will be presented as lectures in the main programme, all others will be presented in the poster exhibition.

Looking forward to meeting you in June 2015!
