Mother Nature i s an unpred ictab le lady, a lways shape sh i f t ing our p lay ing f ie ld ,
second by second, day a f ter day. Which i s why you never know what to expect
when you p lan someth ing as grandiose as Internat iona l Sur f ing Day. And after th i s
year, we’ve rea l i zed that ’s exact ly why we love th i s s tuf f . A l though i t may not
have been f i r ing coast to coast , we s t i l l demonstrated that we can band together
as a t r ibe and make a d i f ference, apprec iate what we have and make the most
out o f our favor i te p layground. Th i s year we sur fed —some of us bet ter waves
than others (yes we’re ta lk ing to you South Af r ica and the Gold Coast ) — but we
sur fed nonethe less . We saw for ourse lves how screwed we are in the Gu l f . We
t r ied to exper ience “the longest I SD” in I ce land. Project Save our Sur f s taged an
a l l -n ight sur f -a- thon in Hunt ington Beach. We c leaned beaches around the g lobe.
And we had a lot o f fun. For those of us in Ca l i forn ia , i t was p layfu l and sunny,
jus t how you’d p ic ture summert ime in Ca l i fo rn ia . What fo l lows i s a sample o f
some of the fun that we had on our 6th Annual I SD. S tay tuned for the fu l l report
in our October i s sue, coming very soon to your mai lbox. The one outs ide, not on
your computer. —Trav is Ferré
