Founded 60 years ago, Korea Aerospace University has been one of the top-notch aviation-
specializing educational institutes in Korea.Though it’s a small-medium size university, the Korea
Aerospace University has been able to create a breadth of programs with many different types of
requirements and learning events.
In 1979, KAU became an affiliate of Korean AIR, which allowed us to become one of the top-tier
Universities in Korea within short time. Over the past 60 years, Korea Aerospace University has played
a pivotal role in leading East Asia’s advance in Aerospace and Astronautics. Through research and
innovation, the KAU has built an unmatched reputation that attracts the best and brightest students
and professors in Korea.

KAU academic programs are of the highest caliber. Many of KAU’s programs are internationally and
nationally recognized including the Aerospace Engineering, Aircraft System Engineering, Air
Transport, Business, as well as our Flight Operation program.
The 2011 Korean Graduate Survey results reveal that Korea Aerospace University graduates
continued to score jobs in the post-global financial crisis climate. In the national performance figures,
KAU had achieved a full-time employment rate for bachelor degree graduates of 74 percent, which is
the third best in the nation. Imagine what can be accomplished in the next 60 years!

Program Introduction
The International Summer Program is specially designed by Korea Aerospace University for students
with an interest in both Aerospace and Korea. The Program runs every year in June and July. All
courses are conducted in English and are taught by renowned professors at KAU and visiting
professors in the world.
The exclusive KAU’s summer program offers international students from all over the world the
unique opportunity to combine learning, creative enrichment and action-packed adventure. Along
with three week intensive lectures, the program also offers our international students an optional
internship opportunity at Korean Air which is one of the biggest airlines in the world.
We aim to provide you with a fun, engaging and memorable study abroad experience in an informal
and friendly atmosphere. The office of International Culture & Education provides information, advice
and assistance to all international students from the time of their initial enquiry and throughout their
studies at KAU. We are proud of the very high level of student satisfaction achieved in the past and we
work hard to ensure your experience is exciting, fun and memorable.

Welcome to Korea Aerospace University
Korea Aerospace University launched the International Summer Program in
2010 to elevate its standard of education and to become one of the most
competitive aerospace-specialized universities in the world. As the only
University in Korea specializing aviation and aerospace research, KAU has
carefully designed the program that tailors specifically to the Aviation and
Aerospace fields.
KAU turns 60 years old this year and will commemorate its 60th year with a
series of events throughout the year designed to bring local and global
community together in celebration. The International Summer Program is one
of the biggiest events along with Homecoming day and KAU Day Gala.
The International Summer Program is committed to offering high quality,
innovative academic courses and experiential education opportunities during the
summer. By opening our doors to exchange and visiting students and
continuing our service to KAU students, we support the University’s goals of
educating a broad and diverse student population. Our commitment to providing
superior service and unrivaled learning opportunities extends to our students,
campus units and departments, and all external partners.

Aviation Safety and Security (3 Credits 45 Hours)
Seth Young(Professor at Ohio State University)
This course provides the student with a detailed introduction into aspects of aviation safety
and security, with an emphasis on safety management systems and safety assurance
practices. The course will also cover all proactive safety programs including flight data
monitoring, safety reporting and safety auditing.
Introduction to International Relations (3 Credits 45 Hours)
Andrew Cal Houn (Professor at Korea Aerospace University)
This course is designed to help students understand why countries behave the way they do
on the global stage. It does so by examining the main theories proposed by international
relations (IR) specialists over the past 100 years. In order to demonstrate how theories can be
applied in practice, several case studies will be examined. Finally, the class will look at
threats and issues particular to international relations in the 21st century.

Airport Management (3 Credits 45 Hours)
Seth Young (Professor at Ohio State University)
This course is a comprehensive study of airport operations and management including role
of the airport manager in planning, finance, administration, public relations, socio-political
and environmental considerations, and operational requirements and maintenance.
Internet Security with Emerging Applications (3 Credits 45 Hours)
Chan Yeob Yeun (Professor at Khalifa University, UAE)
Foundation of Information Security concepts and technologies. Symmetric and Asymmetric
Cryptography Techniques, Identify the main network security threats and vulnerabilities.
Firewall, Intrusion Detection, Intrusion Prevention, Some hacking techniques, Web
application Security and online privacy issues and applications for secure wired and wireless
online environments such as RFID/USN Security, Airport Security and Cloud Computing
Security.

Incheon International Airport will be your first look of Korea when you come to our Summer program. Incheon
International Airport opened in 2001 and is the 3rd largest terminal in size in the world. The airport has been rated
as the best airport for its airport services by the Airports Council International for six consecutive years out of 1700
airports around the world. Specifically designed classes for KAU’s International Summer Program will be given
during your visit.

Korean Air is Korea’s best airline. It was awarded as the World’s top commercial airline cargo operation in 2007.
It serves 130 cities in 45 countries and its domestic division serves 20 destinations. It is one of the top 20 airlines in
the world in terms of passengers carried and is the sixth carrier to fly the A380. You will visit KAL’s field training
center and meet, talk with KAL people.

Internship Overview
-Period :July 23 ~ August 10-Eligibility :University/college students who are currently enrolled and have Senior and
Junior standing at their home institution with a minimum GPA 3.0/4.5 or above
-How to Apply :Future candidate should send their resume and personal statement along
with their application for International Summer Program
This is unpaid Internship. Due to the highly competitive nature of the program, not all
applicants to the ISP internship program will be guaranteed an internship position. The
results of internship nomination will be announced before the ISP starts.
Optional Internship at KOREAN AIR
KAU sponsors an opportunity for international students to live and
work in a major corporate setting specific to Korea. Thanks to unique
connection to Korean Air, KAU offers our international students an
internship opportunity at Korean Air.
Studying at KAU
Pick Up
KAU provide you with an airport pick-up service from Incheon International Airport to Korea
Aerospace University for your convenience. The service is free and you can apply for pick-up
service on the online application form.
Housing
On-Campus dormitory housing is available. Our dormitory has recently renovated and each
room is fully furnished with a desk, blanket, pillow, and mini book shelves. Each suite is air-
conditioned and equipped with free wireless internet service.

The Student Union Building is a gathering place for all members of the KAU community. It is
an integrative,social, and physical environment that inspires personal and intellectual

The Hongdae Area is known for its entertainment and clubs. Also, the
area is a mecca of young art in Korea. Hongdae is one of the best places
to enjoy various art and contemporary culture in South Korea. It takes
only 30 minutes from KAU campus by bus.
Insa Dong Known as a street of traditional Korean culture, Insa-
dong is home to dozens of galleries, antique shops, traditional
restaurants, teashops, and souvenir shops. A walk around Insa-dong
and Ssamziegil takes about an hour. You will get to Insa-dong in 40
minutes by subway.
Already a craze in Asia, the wave has opened the floodgates of K-Pop in France, Brazil, Germany, Australia, and in
the US. Now it is not the time to just enjoy their popularity.

A WORLD CLASS CITY
Although Korea is small in territory, it has many
travelling attractions. With its natural, historical, and
cultural sites located, Seoul can be an interesting
place for adventurous types. During the international
summer program, which takes place in the month of
June and July, students will be able to enjoy the best
that Seoul has to offer.

Payment for tuition and other fees can be made by wire transfer to Korea Aerospace University.

Withdrawal & Refund Policy
If any student withdraws from the courses while enrolled at Korea Aerospace University they may receive a refund in accordance
with the KAU refund policy. All students who withdraw their program before the start of the program (June 25, 2012) will be
charged USD 50 for cancellation. All other remaining tuition and fees will be 100% refunded. If a student withdraws during the
first week of classes (by June 29th, 2012) only 80% of tuition will be refunded.
No refund will be given after July 5th, 2012 under any circumstances.
