    Greetings:

South Louisiana Community College’s (SLCC) International School of Aviation Excellence (ISAE) is

proud to offer a degree program that will equip you, the student pilot, with the knowledge and skill

required to become a commercial pilot and flight instructor in the field of helicopter aviation. The

program consists of general education classes, classroom based ground school and helicopter flight

instruction with individual, tutored sessions. Upon completion, ISAE’s Professional Pilot and

Associate Degree Program will have guided a student pilot to earn the following Federal Aviation

Administration (FAA) certificates/ratings and college degree:

    Private Pilot Certificate

    Instrument Rating

    Commercial Pilot Certificate

    Certificated Flight Instructor Certificate

    Certificated Flight Instructor-Instrument Rating

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Helicopter Aviation

The program’s mission is to provide superior academic instruction and helicopter pilot training. The

program’s superiority is a product of our commitment to safety, quality of personnel, equipment, and

facilities, academic rigor, and a support structure that enables the program to be responsive to

changes in Federal Aviation Regulations, commercial operators’ demands, and the aviation industry.

We thank you for your interest in SLCC’s International School of Aviation Excellence and look forward

to serving you in this extraordinary, life changing endeavor.

    Sincerely,

Darcee Bex, Dean Division of STEM, Transportation, & Energy

    Program Structure

The flight program is intended to begin a new class each Fall and Spring semester and proceed with continuous

enrollment in successive semesters as the student progresses through each phase of training in order to maintain

continuity of the student’s training and learning.

Each semester, the student will be enrolled in ground school and flight training courses specific to a particular pilot

certificate or rating. Additionally, the student must also complete several general education classes to fulfill the

education and credit hour requirements for the associate’s degree (see example below). Transfer credit for previously completed classes can be assessed by the Office of the Registrar during the program application process.

Ground school and flight training sessions will be conducted according to a predetermined schedule, which

alternates every other day between ground and flight training to pair the knowledge gained in the classroom with the

skills learned in the aircraft (see example below). Training sessions are planned to be conducted in the morning or

afternoon on a half-day schedule. Prior to the start of each semester, student pilots will receive an academic

calendar indicating the training schedule, including holidays and planned campus closures.

General education classes will be scheduled and conducted separately from the ground and flight courses. Those

classes will be conducted according to a standard academic calendar, and students will be referred to their

respective professors for that schedule. Advising will be available for students to ensure there are no scheduling

conflicts between any of their classes.

The designated classroom ground school sessions and flight instruction/tutored sessions may be subject to change

during a semester due to weather patterns.

    Certification Testing

Each level of certification requires the student to complete both computer based knowledge tests and practical

skills tests conducted in the aircraft. These tests are proctored by a third party but will be scheduled by ISAE faculty

    on the students’ behalf.
