MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION: Dear Parents, I write this week’s post from a very quiet high school. Usually our storm signal protocol has stood us in good stead, so it was necessary this morning to follow our guidelines and cancel school, when PAGASA included Metro Manila at the storm signal 2 category. It is certainly an opportune time for everyone to review these protocols. Please take a look at the back of your PTA sponsored school calendar where the procedure is clearly articulated. Thank you to the 500 or so people who attended the red carpet event for the viewing of the film “Metro Manila” in the ISM Fine Arts Theater. All proceeds will go to two of ISM’s long standing service learning partners, Papaya Academy and Berdesaco. This coming Friday the HS will be hosting the second Friday Night Lights activity and there is bound to be fantastic competion out on the rugby and field and on the basketball court. In the meantime, we have students away in Beijing at the Global Issues Network (GIN) conference and next week we also send away our IASAS MUN students to ours sister IASAS school, ISKL. This Tuesday is once again the monthly HS Parent Coffee. Listed on the agenda at this point in time are the following items: The HS ICARE program that all HS students will be involved in from December 10-13. The HS Robotics program Counselors will make announcements about upcoming programs. The PTA will promote Family Fun Day And we will review and update the “party email” that I recently sent out If you have any follow up questions about ICARE, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Neil Woods who expertly manages this program. Please note that the HS will send out MAP test results on Monday November 11 to all grade 9 and 10 students through their English class. Yours sincerely, William R. S. From the Office of Admissions and Advancement Leaving ISM? For those students that will be withdrawing from International School Manila this school year (SY 13-14), the following procedure applies: Parents are obliged to officially inform the Admissions Office in writing through a Withdrawal Notification Form at least fifteen (15) days prior to your child’s last day of school. For those leaving at the end of the school year, you MUST submit a Withdrawal Notification Form on or before May 09, 2014. Failure to do so will lead to a deduction of US$1,000 from the Facilities Upgrade Deposit (FUD) in compensation for having held a space for the child and thus preventing the School from offering that space to another child prior to the summer holiday break. The Withdrawal Notification Form can be obtained from the Admissions Office or downloaded from the ISM website here. We hope that your child has had an enriching stay at ISM and wish you and your family the very best in the future. Message from the Operations and Security Department Parent IDs We are now issuing new parent IDs for the school year 2013/14. To reduce the inconvenience to parents of this replacement program, the old parent ID cards will be valid for school access until the end of the first semester on December 18th, 2013. The standard new parent cards will be issued free of charge. Parents may, however, elect to apply for a smartcard ID which will be usable with the new cashless payment system being introduced into the school for SY 2013-14. There will be a fee of P250.00 for a smartcard which covers in part the registration fee the school is required to pay for each card issued. The security office is now processing applications for the new parent IDs. As we require new photographs for the cards, parents are asked to visit the security office for the taking of their picture. Drivers, Helpers and Bodyguards Drivers, helpers and bodyguards should not wait on campus for students throughout the school day. After dropping off students they should exit the school grounds and not return more than 30 minutes before dismissal time. Those who repeatedly fail to comply with the regulation will have their access privilege suspended. Only those vehicles carrying parents or other people with business within the school will be allowed to return to the campus before the scheduled pick-up time.

There are designated areas for unaccompanied drivers, yayas, helpers and security escorts to wait for parents and students. Unless specifically authorized, they may not enter any other area. In the interest of security, and to prevent congestion at the pedestrian entrances to the covered parking area, parents are requested to emphasize to their employees the importance of cooperating with the security staff and remaining in the appropriate areas. Termination of Employment In the event of the termination of service of a family employee, parents are asked to secure the former employee’s ISM ID card and return it to the Security office. If this is not possible, it is important that the Security Office is still informed of the change of circumstances. Firearms All members of the ISM community are reminded that it is strictly forbidden for firearms to be brought onto the campus. This includes concealed weapons carried by bodyguards for close protection. Any person arriving at the school with a firearm should inform the gate guard and arrangements will be made for the weapon to be safely and securely stored during the visitor’s stay. Thank you. Michael Flynn Director
