A s hard as it is to believe
this month sees the
last General Meeting
for 2016, which in turn brings around
the 2016 Annual General Meeting.
A big thank you to IPMS South-
land for a very enjoyable event a couple
of Sundays back when they hosted the
Southern Competition. It was very
pleasing to see a good group from our
group travelling south to attend the
event.
Congratulations to David Murray-
Orr who took out the trophy for 2016.
This event is “more relaxed” than
events such as the Nationals and
South Island Championships and I was
a great opportunity to catch up with our
fellow modellers from down this end of
the country.
On the subject of this competition
we need to keep in mind that the 2017
event by rotation sits with the Dunedin
group and this will require some thought
around timings, format and venues.
At the end of October a group of
the club celebrated the 30th Anniver-
sary of the club as an incorporated So-
ciety at a dinner at Robbies. This was
an informal event in that there were not
any speeches of prizes handed out, and
very much enjoyed by those able to
attend with a little reflection on some of
the enjoyable times people have experi-
enced through the club. Some even
ventured into the topic of the next 30
years!

In preparation for the AGM the 2015 Finan-
cial Report is presented on Page 4 of this issue of
Scalemail. Members will remember that because our
Annual General Meeting is held in the November
and our Financial Year runs from 1 January to 31
December we are now required by the Registrar of
Incorporated Societies to report on a full financial
year. (Any questions please feel free to email me at
Most importantly this month we hold the annual
Frank McCarthy Competition and members are
invited to bring along their latest models to enter the
competition. As per the recent running of this com-
petition judging is undertaken by members present
on the night, by selecting their preferences and
ranking them first, second and third.
Also at the AGM we hold the annual election
of Officer(s) of the Club. Over the past couple of
years I have held the position of President and cov-
ered off the additional functions of secretarial and
treasurer work. I am quite happy for this to continue
if the club so desires.
Additionally over the past couple of years the
Committee has rolled over from one year to the
next. This group primarily being made up of the
“most” regular attendees at the Thursday building
and committee meetings. The primary advantage of
this being we have been able to eliminate the vast
majority of additional committee meetings by simply
catch up at these meeting. I believe this to have been
very successful and the 2015 Nationals were orga-
nized in this way. As I have mentioned before in a
club of our size when it comes to the bigger events
we rely on the input of the majority of the member-
ship in any case.

New Item for Club Library
During the recent trip to Invercargill, Lester offered the
club the AK Interactive Volume One booklet on Metallics at
the very good price of $28. A quick on the spot vote has seen
this added to our Library.
Main chapters in the book are:
Paint Types
Main metals in modelling
Techniques and samples
This book will be stored in the plastic box at the club rooms
for easy reference of members at meetings.
