• Kettil Bruun Society• Kettil Bruun (1924 – 1985):

a pioneer of alcohol social research• At the time of Kettil Bruun’s death :– Tribute to his skills : Klaus

Makela and Robin Room worked as a facilitator

– Most unlikely combinations of research teams : to combine many age groups, scientific fields and cultures, and had an exceptional talent for eliciting collective scientific thinking

– Commitment to be a knowledge community : there were commitment for collegial work in a community of scholars and putting knowledge to use in the world

KBS – The Annual Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium

• KBS 2010 – the 36th Annual Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium of the Kettil Bruun Society,Lausanne, Switzerland, 31 May – 4 June 2010

• The KBS society is an international organization of scientists engaged in research on the social aspects of alcohol use and alcohol problems.

• Objective : – to provide a forum where researchers involved in studies on

alcohol can exchange ideas about their ongoing research– to promote social and epidemiological research on alcohol

and foster a comparative understanding of alcohol use and alcohol problems in a spirit of international cooperation
