FUNCTIONAL GASTROINTESTINAL DISORDERS

Page 2: International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD): International Symposium on Functional Gastrointestinal Disoders

STATEMENT OF NEED

Functional gastrointestinal disorders are among the most common conditions seen by primary care and specialty practices. Research is rapidly changing the understanding of the multiple underlying mechanisms in these disorders. Patient management and treatment remains challenging, and there is a lack of effective pharmacologic treatments available.

OBJECTIVES

The sessions will provide participants with opportunities to:

Apply advances in the pathophysiology of functional gastrointestinal (GI) and motility disorders

Apply newer technologies involved with diagnostic assessment of functional GI and motility disorders

Develop improved clinical skills in the diagnosis and care of patients with functional GI and motility disorders

Develop strategies and skills relating to interview technique, communication skills, and patient-centered care in order to improve patient satisfaction, adherence, and clinical outcome

Network and share information experiences with other conference participants

Recognize the influence of genetics, early life, and socio-cultural factors on the clinical expression of functional GI and motility disorders

Identify the role of neurotransmitters and receptors in the development of clinical symptoms

TARGET AUDIENCE

The 10th International Symposium on Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders has been developed to enhance the knowledge and skills of physicians, psychologists, fellows, physician assistants, nurses, and allied health professionals in their care of patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders.

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCE

This CME activity has been designed to change learner competence and performance and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, patient care and procedural skills, and interpersonal and communications skills.
