OVERVIEW
Entrepreneurs and small firms are central to the growth of an economy and thus an increasing number of graduates will be employed in small and medium firms or will embark upon an entrepreneurial career. The Masters in International Entrepreneurship Management addresses these needs as it is designed for graduates who wish to start, manage and grow a small business internationally or work in a managerial capacity in established small firms across a range of industry sectors. The programme has the following distinct features:
• You are guided on how to devise an investor-ready business plan showing the transition of a business idea to its commercialisation and presenting it to government agencies, venture capitalists and private funders.
• External speakers from the small firm world, government agencies and financial institutions challenge your thinking and provide you with an enhanced network of contacts for future personal and business development opportunities.
• You have the opportunity to work with entrepreneurs and government agencies through the completion of in-company research projects, management and consultancy assignments.
• Elective and optional modules allow you to customise your learning to suit personal career aspirations.
OBJECTIVES
The programme provides you with specialist knowledge and a practical understanding of the key tasks required to establish, manage and grow a new venture in a challenging international business environment. You will develop knowledge in the fields of product development, innovation, marketing, financial analysis, business planning, leadership and strategy. You will enhance your capacity to be dynamic, creative entrepreneurs capable of transforming a business concept into a viable business proposition to generate employment. The programme facilitates the development of skills and perspectives such as creative problem solving, diagnostic skil ls, communication, project management, and people management skills that are needed to grow a small business internationally
PROGRAMME DELIVERY
While drawing on a wide range of theories and international best practices that have shaped the field of entrepreneurship and small business development, the programme offers an excellent blend of theory and practice achieved through participation in innovative activities in an experience-based learning environment. The focus on action and experiential learning includes interactive presentations, industry specific case studies, team work, individual assignments and entrepreneurship and small business-related projects. The opportunity to work with and solve business problems for small and medium firms will further equip you with best practice in small firm formation and growth and thus better prepare you to engage in entrepreneurial activity either personally or in an established business context. The completion of a dissertation allows you to deepen your knowledge and expertise in a chosen subject of interest or alternatively, completion of the Strategic Commercialisation Project provides the opportunity to transition a business idea and evaluate its commercialisation options by developing a two year strategic growth plan.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The entry requirement is a 2.2 honours degree (Level 8). However, applicants who have a 3rd class honours degree with substantial small business related experience as entrepreneurs or as an employee in a small or medium sized firm may be considered in accordance with the University’s policy for the recognition of prior learning.
