This Bulletin ie based on Dooument No. 21 submitted by FAO to the September 1964 mooting of the ICES St~tlRtioa] Committee and renaab Buggestions made by that Cornmi the. The tables in thiR Bulletin and in future lsfluea are intended to supplement and link for the North Atlantio as a whole tbe more detailed tables of catches by fishing sreaB In (a) the Northwest Atlantio published by lOBAr in its Statistical Bulletin and (b) tbe Northeast Atlantio by TeES in ite !BJletin Statlstlgue.

In eaoh of the tables the species are arranged in the following three "classes"l

(i) Speoies whioh are caught on both the western and eastern side of the North Atlantio, i.8. identified as items in both the lCHAF and ICES statistical tables.

(ii) Speoies shown separately only in the ICES tabulations, i.e. oaught in signifioant quantitiee only in the Northeast Atlantic, some of the speoies in this "olass" might also be oaught in the Northwest Atlantio but they are not recorded separately in the ICNAF statintios.

(i11) Speoies shown separately only in the ICNAF tabulations, 1.e. caught in ei81lifioant qUantities only in the Northwest Atlantio, some of the speoies in this "olaes" might also be oaught in the Northeast Atlantio but they are not reoorded separately in the ICES statistics.

In the tabulations the oountry breakdown of the totals for individual epecies is given only for the speoies in "olan" (1) under eaoh group i.s. speoiee caught in both ICES and ICll'AF areas. To eave space the totals for speoies appearing in "oialisCIs" (1i) and (iii) aTS not broken down by oountrYI the reader is to oonsult respectively, ths Bulletin StatistiguB of ICES and the Statistioal Bulletin of ICNAF for the details of the oatohes of these speoies by oountry.
