AP Courses are college-level courses taught in high school by a trained AP teacher using a College Board approved syllabus and curriculum.* One-year course (followed exam in May of that school year)* College credit (based on culminating exam scored from 1 to 5)* 10-point weight on GPA (per AP course)

AP Courses at Jackson High
* AP Exam Fee: $95 (per exam)* APS covers 90% of the cost for all AP Exams for low-income students
(leaving $5 that the school will likely cover).* APS covers 75% of the cost for all AP Exams for non-low-income
students (leaving a balance of approximately $23).* The Georgia DOE will pay for one STEM AP Exam.* The NMSI Grant covers half the cost of each Math, Science, and English
AP Exam.* Students who do not sit for their AP Exam(s) will be charged $40 per
exam.

What the IBDP looks like in real life…
* The International Baccalaureate Diploma* Students must earn a combined score of 24 or more from the 6 IB Examinations in
May of the students’ senior year.* Students must complete the DP Core (EE, CAS, TOK).* Students receive an official IB Diploma in addition to their Georgia High School
Diploma.* The IB Diploma often provides enough credit for up to one year of college
(depending on the school).* The IB Diploma is recognized at most colleges and universities throughout the
country.* Meets admissions criteria for most international schools.
The IB Diploma

* The CP Core* Personal and Professional Skills (PPS)* Reflective Project* Service Learning

Potential CP Math Sequences
* The IB Career-related Certificate* Students must complete CTAE Pathway (three consecutive years)* Students must complete the CP Core* Students should make qualifying scores in IBDP courses
* Complete CTAE Pathway for Industry Certification* Students would be able to graduate with a Georgia High School Diploma, an
IBCP Certificate (with qualifying scores on all IB exams), and a certificate of industry certification in their CTAE Pathway for entry-level employment.
The IB Career-related Certificate
* Each IB Subject Examination - $119 (x6) = $714* APS pays 90% of all IB exam costs for low-income students and
75% of the cost for all other DP/CP students. * DP Total for families: $174 CP Total for families: $29 * Note: Parents and students must agree to complete the IBDP or IBCP to
receive this rate. Students often have until November of their senior year to confirm and March/April of senior to make any applicable payment.
* The DP is “all or nothing”. We do not offer an IB Certificate Program where students can pick and choose IB courses outside of the CP.
The Cost: IB Examinations (May of senior year in IBDP or IBCP)
* Focuses on Approaches to Teaching and Learning in 6th – 10th grade.* Communication Skills* Social Skills* Self-management Skills* Research Skills* Thinking Skills
* MYP in high school requires the completion of the MYP Personal Project* This long-term project is designed as an independent learning experience of
approximately 25 hours.* Students receive an Official MYP Certificate.* May be a factor in participation in the IBDP or IBCP.

The IB Middle Years Program (MYP)
* There are only a few ways that a student can be removed from the IBDP or IBCP once they have started.* If a student fails two or more IB classes.* Explicit concern has been expressed by a variety of teachers and/or
counselor.* If the IB requirements conflict or prevent students from completing their
general high school graduation requirements. * If a parent requests for the student to be removed after meeting with the
student’s counselor and IB Coordinator.
* Students in AP classes are expected to take the AP exam regardless of performance in the class.

Dual Enrollment for 2021 onward…
* The big change is the Dual Enrollment funding cap of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours (about 10 classes.)
* Counselors recommend 5 classes spread out per academic year of 11th and 12th grade. (No more associate degrees.)
* Georgia State University: Early College – must take specific classes. [Contact Dr. Kimberly Latchman]
* Atlanta Metropolitan State College or Atlanta Technical College [Contact your child’s counselor]
* Any other state school: You must apply and once you have been accepted, contact your counselor.

* Step 1: Visit https://maynardjacksonib.weebly.com* Step 2: Discuss IB, AP, and/or Dual Enrollment with your child’s counselor.* Step 3: Find out what it will take to get into your favorite colleges.* Step 4: Plan ahead and maintain your grades in all your current classes.
(We generally look for students with an overall “B” (3.0) Grade Point Average by the end of tenth grade.)
* Step 5: Prepare to complete the MYP Personal Project.* Step 6: If you are a rising junior, complete and submit the IBDP/IBCP
