Just to make things more difficult for poor Richard, he has to deal with squabble inside the crusade

Between Conrad Guy And The Duke of Burgundy

Conrad Vs. Guy

Guy Guy still believes he

should be the king Guy was supported by

Richard I And he had support from

the Pisans, whom he offered trade concessions

Conrad Conrad believed he

should be the new king He was supported by

Philip of France, and the Duke of Burgundy

The Genoese offered him support in exchange for similar concessions given to the Pisans

Support for Conrad

Despite Richard’s support, popularity for Guy was on the decline

After all, no one had ever really trusted him And he did loose the kingdom The Duke of Burgundy withdrew the support of

the remaining French crusaders, until Conrad was elected king

All in all, this was a nightmare for Richard

Eventually, in order to get the support his army needed, Richard has to agree to Conrad becoming king

Guy is given Cypress as a consolation prize

Everything was settled Then Conrad is assassinated

Who killed Conrad?

Actually we don’t know, you can take your pick from the list of suspects

The role of Isabella in the death is somewhat suspicious

He was assassinated after going out to find someone to dine with, after Isabella had refused to leave her bath and dine with him

Henry was crowned King of Jerusalem As soon as he became king he ordered the

Genoese (who backed Conrad) to be thrown out, and the Pisans to be allowed in
