Abstract: The study purpose is to analyse the passengers perception toward the performance, service level and prospect of

terminal facilities development at airport terminal building. The methodology used in this study is Importance-Performance

Analysis, to analyse the passenger perception at the terminal of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The conclusion that

can be drawn from the results of Importance-Performance Analysis as follows: waiting room and food and beverage were

priority for expanded; airline counters frontage/check-in, lobby and inspection (lobby and ticketing), and departure lounge

were in good condition but must be maintained; baggage claim and baggage inspection areas indicated affecting the

satisfaction of service users; and airlines ticketing office, supporting services, and concourse were not affecting the

interest/satisfaction of service user. The suggestions were: the decision to expand the airport terminal area should be used

as a second alternative, before deciding expanding this area, it was better to manage the traffic (passenger and aircraft

flows) and flight schedules/frequencies such that the expected distribution of traffic should be in a more evenly distributed;

and should be improved the human resources managementat Soekarno-Hatta Airport in terms of services to passengers; and

Abstract: The recovery of glycerine from spent soap lye has been done using soap lye samples obtained from the cold

process of soap production using palm kernel oil (PKO) and palm oil (PO). The overall weight of glycerine recovered per 200g

of oil used, was 9.8g (4.9%) and 9.4g (4.7%) from PKO and PO soap lye respectively. Thus an average of 56.3% and an average

of 53.9% of the glycerine in spent soap lye were recovered from PKO and PO soap lye respectively. Higher quantity of brine

(200g at 8% concentration) was needed to recover 9.8g of glycerine from PKO soap lye than that (50g at 12% concentration)

required to recover 9.4g of glycerine from PO soap lye. The weight of glycerine obtained from palm kernel soap lye increased

steadily going through some maxima at various brine concentrations before they began to drop. At 8% concentration, the

maximum value of glycerine obtained was 9.8g, 7.9g at 10% concentration, 8g at 12 and 15% concentrations respectively.

While the weight of glycerine recovered from palm oil soap lye increased minimally at all concentrations. At 8%

Abstract: In order to solve the problems of trust evaluation in the field of online auction, this paper designs a trust model

composed of multi-key-factors trust path. Based on the existing trust model, this new model tries to solve the problems of

no-standard, no-view and no-prevention. It divided the trust into direct trust and recommended trust. Each trust Calculation

depends on its path. As we know, many kinds of factors are affecting both the direct-trust-path and the recommended-trust-

path. These key-factors run through the whole course of online auction. Study on trust paths of using key-factors, we can get

Abstract: Reverse Combinatorial auctions, that is, auctions where bidders can bid on the supply right of combinations of

items, tend to lead to more efficient allocations than traditional auction mechanisms in multi-item auctions where the

agents' valuations of the items are not additive. A common model is formulated for optimal the winner determination

problem of reverse combinatorial auction. A PRIM (Preprocessing Rules-Based Improved MMAS) algorithm is adopted for

the problem. Three preprocessing rules was proved to be feasibility. By applying two of the preprocessing rules before

serching begins, noncompetitive bids can be removed efficiently and the bid scale was decreased. By using the other

preprocessing rule in every round of serch, unnecessary trials will be avoid early. Simulation results show that the PRIM

Abstract: In this research, the response of a Semi-SWATH (Small Waterplane Area) ship in following sea condition with fins

stabilizer was investigated. In the waves, a ship move with periodic dynamic surge motion caused by the external sea wave

force and moment. In addition, in following seas with high steep waves, the ship can surf, high pitch, bow-dive, and lead the

ship in the non-linear response. A numerical simulation program in 3DOF (surge, heave and pitch) with time varying model

equation was developed to study the ship responses. This study focuses on the effect of variation of wave parameter to the

ship response and the effects of fins stabilizer; fixed and active. The numerical simulations were validated with model tests

Abstract: In the present paper, the effects of magnetic field and non-homogeneity on wave propagation of free harmonic

waves in isotropic material is discussed on the basis of the linear theory of elasticity. The one-dimensional equation of

elastodynamic is solved in terms of radial displacement by using technique of variables separation. In the present paper

three different boundaries are considered namely the free, fixed and mixed. The determination is concerned with the

eigenvalues of the natural frequencies of the radial vibrations for different boundary conditions in the case of harmonic

Abstract: This paper considers the interference awareness and reduction in mobile radio communication networks by use

of mobile transceiving stations with two antennas and two delay lines. Each of delay lines is installed in a reception path of

antenna that ensures constructive interference for useful signal and destructive interference for disturbance one. Such

constructive suggestion leads to amplification of useful signal and to attenuation of almost all other signals received by

mobile station in owing to reflection from macro obstacles. This method considers the possibility of utilization of mobile

Abstract: Floods are common phenomenon in the state of Dungun, specifically in Terengganu-Malaysia. Every year, floods

affecting biodiversity on this region and also causing property loss of this residential area. The residents in Dungun always

suffered from floods since the water overflows to the areas adjoining to the rivers, lakes or dams. The rainfall and

evaporation of the area have a large influence on the water level of Dungun River. Therefore, a suitable prediction model is

needed to forecast the water level in Dungun River by adopting the ordinary linear regression (OLR) and partial least squares

regression (PLSR) based on hydrological data. However, we need to perform cleansing data of the hydrological data since the

original data contain inconsistent data. Based on the experiment, it shows that PLSR is more suitable model rather than OLR

and the use of the cleansing data gives higher accuracy than the original data.

Abstract: In order to fully utilize pig bones and increase their added value, according to the design principles of Box-

Behnken central composite test, with 3 factors and 3 levels of response surface method (RSM), a quadratic polynomial

regression methematics model of Protamax protease hydrolyzing bone powder to produce polypeptides solution was

established, its optimal process conditions were at 15% substrate concentration, pH 7.5, 0.25 enzyme subtrate ratio (E/S),

55℃℃℃℃, 13 h enzymatic hydrolysis time. The polypeptides production rate (PPR) was 121.45 mg/g. Polypeptides powder were

obtained by freeze-drying, which contained crude protein 98.91%, amino acid 12.18%, and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) soluble

protein more than 95% of total protein. Besides, the total antioxidant capacity (TAC), scavenging action to hydroxyl radial (.

OH) and inhibition superoxide anion radicals capacity of polypeptides were also observed. Compared with glutathione

(GSH), when the solution concentration range was from 100 mg/mL to 150 mg/mL, the TAC of bone collagen polypeptides

was 71.92% of GSH; from 2.5 mg/mL to 20 mg/mL, its scavenging action to hydroxyl radical was 1.36 times as GSH; from 10

mg/mL to 150 mg/mL, its inhibition superoxide anion radical capacity was lower than GSH.

Abstract: In this paper, the concept of the competitiveness is tried to be disclosed by defining national competitiveness and

measurement methods of competitiveness. However, there are large number of methods measuring competitiveness, the

most leading and attractive ones are WEF’s Global Competitiveness Report, IMD’s World Competitiveness Yearbook, and

IFC’s Business Competitiveness - Ease of Doing Business Report. The purpose of this paper is to describe the national

competitiveness and to examine the variables and the indicators used for measuring the competition power. In addition, the

paper aims at comparing Turkey with the countries which are regarded as the rivals or the potential rivals of Turkey

according to the experts of World Bank, IMF, OECD and so on. In this regard, in this paper, a comparison will be made among

BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) +KM (South Korea, Malaysia) and CIVETS (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey

and South Africa) countries. Moreover, a general evaluation and discussion will be made based on the mentioned indices as

the conclusion.

Abstract: This paper discusses the estimation of the aerodynamic parameter in the mathematical model of the micro

coaxial helicopter from the flight data. The mathematical model of the micro coaxial helicopter will be derived in which total

aerodynamic and propulsion forces and moments are expressed in term of several state and control variables. The states and

parameters in the model will be estimated using parameter estimation techniques. Since flight data are commonly corrupted

with noise, the Kalman filter followied by the Total Least Squares will be applied for estimating the state and the parameter

in the mathematical model of the micro coaxial helicopter. Examples on the estimation of the aerodynamic parameter in the

mathematical model of the micro coaxial helicopter based on the simulated flight data will be presented and evaluated in

this paper. It will be shown in this paper that the TLS method gives consistent results compared to the ordinary LS method.

Abstract: This research aimed to analyze the influence of the opening or open space to daily changes and spatial variation

of air temperature in mangrove forests. The research was conducted on two transect; one of them is in an area where there

was an open space that is inundated when sea tide is low. The ambient temperatures at both locations were compared

based on quantitative parameters: maximum value, the difference of the maximum air temperature of the periphery with

the interior of the forest, the edge gradient and the depth of the edge effects. The results showed that the widely open gap

caused the decrease in the difference of the forest interior-edge temperature, the reduction of the depth of the edge effects,

and decreasing of gradient edge.

Abstract: The aim of the present work to investigate the effect of UV-irradiation on the optical properties of PMMA within

period of time (24,72,and120hr.). The samples are caste as thin films. These samples were irradiated UV-source for a period

of time by (24,72,and120hr.). These samples were evaluated spectrophotometrically before and after UV-irradiation. The

absorption spectra of irradiated samples showed radiation induced absorption changes. There was an increment in

absorption proportional with irradiation time up to (72hr.). This increment was attributed to interfaces traps formation by

photodegradation ,which are caused by UV-irradiation. At (120hr.) UV-irradiation, there was decreasing in absorption, which

was attributed to the degassing process induced by photo degradation. It was found there is decrease in energy gap for

irradiated samples for an irradiation time up to (72hr.),then there is increase in energy gap for irradiated samples to

(120hr.),which was attributed to the absorption changes induced by photo degradation. The optical constant (α,k,n, εr,and

εi)for the samples before and after irradiation were investigated.

Abstract: Surface sediments from coastal areas of Bonny, Imo, Qua Iboe and Warri rivers in the Niger Delta region of

Southeastern Nigeria were characterized for n-alkene composition using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)

technique. The total organic carbon (TOC) contents for the sediments ranged from 0.44 to 4.26% with an average value of

2.36 ± 1.03. The concentrations of n-alkenes C18:1 – C24:1 for the sediments in the upper, middle and lower zones of the

study area ranged from 0.13-1.33mg/kg, 0.26-2.52mg/kg and 0.17-31.86mg/kg, respectively with a Carbon Preference Index

(CPI) of 0.31 – 13.32. The dominant carbon maximum (Cmax) of n-alkenes were C18:1, C22:1 for Warri, C22:1 for Qua Iboe

and C20:1, C24:1 for Bonny coastal sediments. Factor analyses confirmed biogenic, anthropogenic (petroleum activities) and

Abstract: The antioxidant activity of the seed extract and diethylether fraction (DF) of Monodora tenuifolia Benth

(Annonaceae) was evaluated. The Monodora tenuifolia seed was extracted with petroleum ether 40-600 C to produce the

crude extract. Fractionation of the extract by column chromatography using diethylether produced the DF. Phytochemical

analysis of Monodora tenuifolia seed extract showed the presence of some plant secondary metabolites, viz: alkaloids,

flavonoids, proteins, carbohydrates, saponins, glycosides, cyanogenic glycosides, cardiac glycosides, tannins, steroidal

aglycone, while O and C glycosides, anthracene glycosides and reducing sugars were absent. The crude extract and

diethylether fraction showed the presence of vitamin A and vitamin E. The crude extract and DF reduced CCl4 – induced lipid

peroxidation in rat liver homogenate. They also exhibited significant antioxidant activity in nitric oxide induced lipid

peroxidation. The crude extract and DF produced a dose-dependent protective effect against lipid peroxidation and free

radical generation in liver homogenate. The toxicity study with the crude extract showed no signs of obvious toxicity up to a

dose level of 5000mg/kg body weight. The result suggests that Monodora tenuifolia seed possessed significant antioxidant

Abstract: This paper deals with the problem of development of the mathematical model of a micro coaxial helicopter using

hybrid method of analytical and experimental approach. An analytical mathematical model of micro coaxial helicopter has

been derived with the consideration of dynamics of rotating parts to the rigid body dynamics. Pre-flight simulation was

carried out based on the derived mathematical model to simulate the flight test scenarios. A sensory system was developed

and installed onboard to capture the helicopter state during the flight test for the purpose of identifying parameters. Two

steps system identification based on flight test data was used to estimate the parameters in the mathematical model. The

Extended Kalman Filter was applied to estimate the states of the helicopter. Subsequently, based on measured flight test

data, Total Least Square method was used to estimate the aerodynamic parameters in the linearized model of force and

moment coefficients in the longitudinal mode. As a result, a mathematical model of micro coaxial helicopter with adequate

parameters has successful been obtained. The verifications show that the estimated model of force and moment coefficients

Abstract: In this paper a new configuration of optical telescope is proposed .It has attractive features not possessed by any

of the earlier systems, for example, the Cassegrain and Gregorian .The elegance of this new arrangement is due to its

geometry which is very compact and extremely well-baffled .Two versions of this configuration are proposed. The first is a

catadioptric version and the second is an all-reflecting version .Different types of this latter version may be proposed .One of

these types is most attractive as it can be aplanatic .The proposed system may be considered as a useful optical system for

many applications such as ground-based telescope, space-borne telescope and fast camera objective.

Abstract: Iron (Fe) doped titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films have been successfully prepared by using spin coating method.

X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) characterization were conducted to know the microstructure

and crystallite morphology of the films. It was indicated that the ankerite crystal orientation appears due to introduction of

doping Fe on the thin films. Furthermore, increasing the dopant concentration of the TiO2 thin films yielded an increasing of

porosity value which is related to the application on gas sensor films.

Abstract: The main object of this work is to estimate the thermal conductivity of consolidated specimens of diorite rocks.

The sample of these rocks have been obtained from Shaewa Shahbaz Ghari Volconic Complex near Mardan in Pakistan. The

thermo-physical properties like thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the specimens have been simultaneously

measured by transient plane source technique at normal temperature and pressure. The porosity and density are helpful in

the modeling of thermal conductivity. Therefore American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards are applied for

the measurement of porosity and other density-related parameters. The chemical composition of the samples is made with

the help of X-ray fluorescence technique. The effective thermal conductivity of thirteen samples of diorite have been

obtained by using different pre-existing empirical models with air as saturent. A model is also proposed for the estimation of

thermal conductivity at normal temperature and pressure. The values of effective thermal conductivity from all models are

in agreement with the experimental values within twenty percent.

Abstract: New Trends in language teaching attribute a great attention to language learners and their characteristics. Within

this features, language learning strategies have largely been investigated by many researchers. It is fair to say that language

educators is many different contexts have been seeking ways to help students become more successful and independent in

their efforts to learn to communicate in foreign language. The application of foreign language learning and use strategies is

viewed as one vehicle for promoting greater success. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of

metacognitive strategy training through use of explicit strategy instruction on the development of lexical knowledge of EFL

learners. To reach the goal of the study, two homogeneous groups of English language learners at pre-university level were

selected, based on the result of a vocabulary pre-test. Each group consisted of 30 members, one acting as the experimental

group and as other control group. Both group received instruction vocabulary learning strategies through a 10- week period

of instructions and did some extensive reading during the course. However, only the experimental group received

metacognitive strategy training during the course of the semester. After the treatment, the same vocabulary test was

administered to both groups simultaneously as post-test. Though the analysis of the obtained data, it was found that there

were significant differences between control and experimental groups of the dependent variable, lexical performance.

Therefore, there is an empirical piece of evidence to support the language teachers who use metacognitive strategy training.

Abstract: Enlargement is one of the European Union’s (EU) most powerful policy tools ensuring lasting peace, freedom,

security and political stability. The EU has enlarged from 15 to 27 members. Turkey, Croatia, Macedonia, Iceland are now

official candidate countries and some of the Western Balkans are potential candidate countries. This paper uses a conditional

logistic regression approach to study key factors affecting EU membership. The probability of being an EU member within

eight years is predicted for each candidate and potential candidate country. The findings indicate that general government

debt and current account balance are important factors in determining which of the candidate countries will join the EU and

when they will do so. It is also found that Iceland and Croatia will be EU member countries within eight years and the

accession processes of other candidate and potential candidate countries will before than eight years.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the performance of the Turkish banking sector for the period 2002–

2008 by utilizing data envelopment analysis (DEA). It is a non-parametric linear programming-based technique for measuring

relative performance of decision-making units (DMUs). To measure productivity changes over time, Malmquist total factor

productivity (TFP) indices are calculated from DEA scores. Moreover, this study examines the relative efficiency of banks of

different sizes (large, medium, small) categorized by the share of total assets. Then, super-efficiency scores of Turkish banks

are calculated to rank the performance of the efficient banks. Based on the sample of 45 banks, our findings reveal that the

efficiency of the Turkish banking system via the production approach is very high and stable while the efficiency via the

intermediation approach is moderately high and somewhat volatile.

Abstract: A finite element method (FEM) has been used for determination of confined turbulent flow with a one equation

model to depict the turbulent viscosity which is applied to a smooth straight channel. The effect of a zone close to a solid

wall has been investigated by imposing a technique to model this zone for predicting the distribution of the pertinent

variables in this zone. The validity of the imposed technique is shown by comparison with other techniques.

Abstract: This paper proposes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy approach for designing robust power system stabilizers (PSS) in

order to improve the stability of a multi-machine power system under fault conditions. Simulations were carried out using

several fault tests at transmission line on a Two-Area Multi-machine Power System that consists of four machine and ten

buses. The system is simulated in Simulink Software while the PSS is implemented using Fuzzy Logic Toolbox in Matlab. As a

reference the PSS model, Delta w PSS has been used for comparison with the PSS under consideration. The result shows that

power transfer response using the model is more robust than Delta w PSS, especially for both single line to ground fault and

symmetrical three phase fault.

estimated by AR model using Yule Walker method. We used the speech and noise samples taken from TIDIGIT corpus and

NOISE-92 databases respectively, and evaluated the performance of system using LPC-PEV and LPC residual error. The

experimental results based on numerical values of the samples clearly evident that the boundary detection rate of proposed

algorithm is far better than the LPC residual error in term of clean and noisy speech.

Abstract: One of the most powerful techniques of semiconductor material and process characterization is the use of three

probes in spreading resistance configuration. The raw data thus obtained needs analysis for extracting profiling information.

The problem of poor spatial resolution of Spreading Resistance measurements on shallow doped layers has been taken up.

An analysis of the raw spreading resistance data is made and a technique is developed for the correction of these data and

their utilization in profiling the doped samples. The technique includes both the areas of application, namely the lateral

profiling across the surface of the doped samples and the depth profiling of the doped layers using beveled samples. The

mathematical model developed for the analyses is in conformity with the physical set up of the experimental measurements.

The results of the analysis in both the above stated cases are presented. The resulting corrected spreading resistance data

are in good agreement with the values obtained by the other well established methods.

Abstract: Performance optimization of variable-speed wind energy conversion system (WECS) is presented here from a

practical point of view against poorly known model and parameters of the system working in the partial load region. The

proposed approach is to approximate the power curve by using a fuzzy model that uses the generator rotor speed and the

wind speed as the inputs and the generator power as the output. The fuzzy model is required to well estimate only a few

number of the maximum generator power points, thus less effort for its training. The data pairs of the generator rotor speed

and the wind speed at which the fuzzy model gives the maximum estimation of the generator power are used to develop a

control law using the regression method. Well chosen data pairs enable the regression method to result in an optimal

control law, mapping any given wind speed within the partial load region into an optimal rotor speed. Applied to control a

squirrel-cage induction generator based WECS, the optimal control law has successfully maximized the performance of the

Abstract: The research of congestion control has recently been focused on the explicit and rate-based mechanism. RCP

(Rate Control Protocol) is an explicit and rate-based mechanism which emulates PS (Processor Sharing) to reduce the AFCT

(Average Flow Completion Time). There are few studies considering RCP in satellite networks although RCP has some

promising virtues. Therefore, this paper explored the performance of RCP thoroughly through simulations in NS2. The results

of simulations show that RCP has high throughput and is not affected by BER (Bit Error Rates). But some drawbacks such as

flash crowd, long response time and TCP-unfriendliness were found.

Abstract: In the present paper, the effect of the rotation and non-homogeneous on the wave propagation in orthotropic

material is discussed on the basis of the linear theory of elasticity. The one-dimensional equation of elastodynamic is solved

in terms of radial displacement. Three different boundary are considered, namely the free, fixed and mixed orthotropic

material. The determination is concerned with the eigenvalues of the natural frequency of the radial vibrations for different

boundary conditions in the case of harmonic vibrations. Numerical results are given and illustrated graphically for each case

Abstract: This paper discusses the effect of casting processing parameter on the mechanical properties of Aluminum alloy

6061 companied with Al2O3 and Si CP. The specimens were poured in two different mold types one of steel and the other of

graphite. These two types have a wide range of cooling rate; steel has fast cooling rate whereas graphite has slow one. In

order to investigate this effect, and the alloying elements participation the specimens were taken from three different

positions in the mold; top, middle and bottom. The mechanical wear, hardness and microstructure examination were

performed. The results showed that wear rate and hardness increase in case of specimen poured in steel mold. This

increasing due to fast cooling rate which make refining of the grain size of aluminum alloys. Whereas, their mechanical

properties decreased when using graphite molds. In contrast of this result, ductility is increased. This is attributed to that

graphite has slow cooling rate (heat dissipate is low) which make enlargement to the grain size of aluminum alloy and the

Abstract: Soil as one of the most vital natural resources for life, has continuously undergone degradation due to erosion

process. The eroded soil is due to strength of binding of particles forming soil which is unable anymore to hold pressures on

it. One of the ways to increase the soil strength and reduce erosion on it, is by stabilizing with emulsified asphalt. The aim of

the study was to find out the stabilization effect of emulsified asphalt on erosion rate of sandy clay loam. The soil sample

was obtained from the Jeneberang watershed area that is at Manuju village, Gowa regency, South Sulawesi province (E.1190

41.035’, S. 050 17.509’, + 269 m). Emulsified asphalt type CSS-IS was obtained from PT Wydya Sapta Colas. The test was done

by rain simulation using Rainfall Simulator. The research parameters comprise rainfall intensity (50 mm/hour; 65 mm/hour;

80 mm/hour), degree of slope (100; 200; 300), and emulsified asphalt volume (0 cc/m2; 60 cc/m2; 80 cc/m2; 100 cc/m2)

with length of storage 3 days. The data were analyzed by using descriptive quantitative from regression analysis results and

correlation of erosion rate parameter with rain intensity parameter, slope and emulsified asphalt volume., The results of the

correlation of erosion rate parameter with rain intensity parameter, slope and emulsified asphalt volume., The results of the

study indicate that erosion rate increases exponentially in line with the increase of rainfall intensity and linearly by the

increase of slope, but it decreases exponentially by the increase of emulsified asphalt volume. The stabilization of sandy clay

loam with emulsified asphalt can reduce the erosion rate 61.58%, 72.42%, and 86.14% respectively at the stabilization of

emulsified asphalt 60 cc/m2, 80cc/m2, and 100 cc/m2.

Abstract: Standard Penetration Test (SPT) value contour map will be great helpful to the foundation designer. Every

engineer wants to ensure the structural safety and serviceability. For this reason it is very important to know the soil

condition before any construction. This study is carried out to prepare SPT contour map at Rajshahi city which will be helpful

to construct small and low cost structures. To this end, firstly SPT value data of different locations and different depths at

Rajshahi city have been collected from field test results. X- axis and Y- axis has considered in such a manner that the

available boreholes data are in between these two axis. By using the commercially available Origin Software two types of

SPT value contour map have been plotted at each depth (3ft, 6ft, 10ft, 15ft, 20ft, 30ft, 40ft, 50ft and 60ft). Line type contour

such as soil density, friction angles, settlement of shallow and deep foundations, bearing capacity values, etc. By using SPT

value a typical example have been done. At a glance to observe the prepared SPT value contour map any engineer can

understand the soil condition at different depth of Rajshahi City.

Abstract: The curve number (CN) is a hydrologic parameter used to describe the storm water runoff potential for drainage

area, and it is a function of land use, soil type, and soil moisture. Therefore, the land use and land cover changes can be

represented by this parameter. This study describes how to estimate the CN due to land use and land cover changes in

Jobaru River basin. We applied the ArcGIS tool to delineate river basin and sub-basin, and HEC-GeoHMS tool for estimating

the CN. MIKE 11-RR model is used to simulate the rainfall-runoff. The result shows that from 1948 to 2005 the CN of the

Jobaru River basin decreased, which indicates that the land capability of reducing flooding was increased during this period.

Jobaru River basin decreased, which indicates that the land capability of reducing flooding was increased during this period.

However, in the sub-basin the result is different. In mountainous sub-basin, the CN also decreased but in plain sub-basin the

CN increased. This indicates that the land capability of reducing flooding was increased in mountainous sub-basin but

decreased in the plain sub-basin. From 1948 to 2005, with the same amount of rainfall applied to the different land use, the

peak flow decreased. This shows that the decreasing of CN caused the decreasing of peak flow.

Abstract: A research to study the sediment transport along the estuarial area of Ranoyapo River in North Sulawesi

(Celebes) has been conducted. The data acquired were the distribution of flow speed and the spread of bed load along the

estuary during dry season. Seventeen locations along the river estuary were selected started from about 1500 m upstream

the coastline. The speed measurements were carried out in two points at each location, at 0.6 of the river depth and on

riverbed. The bed load measurements were done at points close to the riverbed (0.4 to 0.6 cm approaching the riverbed).

The modeling of the river flow speed at the points near the riverbed as well as at the points 0.6 of the depth during low tides

showed a decrease in the speed distribution pattern with increasing distance up to the coastline. At the times of low tide,

transports of bed load takes place in the estuary region of Ranoyapo River. The increase of flow speed due to the increase of

transports of bed load takes place in the estuary region of Ranoyapo River. The increase of flow speed due to the increase of

flow debit will result in the increase of flow velocity that may exceed the critical value. This allows the transportation of bed

load to increase. In the condition of high tide, the pattern of bed load distribution showed bed load transport at locations

one to eight. In the contrary, bed load material at locations nine to seventeen were not transportable, meaning that the flow

velocity at those locations was unable to transport bed load sediment towards the coast line.

compared with some theories established from previous research. The results indicate that the sandy beach slopes are

adjusted due to wave attack to form either steeper or flatter stable slopes. The range of stable slopes (nf1) are 3 ≤n ≤ 12. It

was observed that the sand particles at the lower part of the slope are transported upward and deposited at a higher part of

the slope and vice versa. Experimental result showed the stability of beach profile with the utilization of bar as well as berm.

The result also showed significant corelation between stabilizing slope (tan α) and wave steepness (H0/L0).

Abstract: The city of Belém, Pará (PA) suffers the problem of unplanned settlement around its rivers. Therefore, the access

to the rivers has become difficult. There is a lack of governmental plans to promote the anticipation of feasible investigation

and solutions to urban flooding. The purpose of this study is to identify the physical characteristics of the hydrological

resources of this urban area in order to establish physical and spatial indicators. To describe the study site, flooding areas

were located and the application of statistical analysis was necessary. After the descriptive analysis was done, a profile was

verified, where the most critical points are pointed by the survey data. In Pearson's chi-squared test the variables which

showed the greatest correlations were settlement density and canal characteristics. In short, in areas with higher population

Abstract: In this paper, two kinds of models are used in order to validate a basic stiffness method for the macro-modeling

of infilled frames. Previous numerical modeling techniques were faced with several complexities like the existence of plane

study the behaviour of masonry infilled reinforced concrete frames and also considers the effect of the size of openings

which is often ignored by most designers. A second model which is basically a macro-modeling technique which uses the

stiffness matrix method to analyze an equivalent one-strut model used to replace the infilled panel is also used in this work,

and results obtained validated against that of the micro-modeling procedure. It was observed that the stiffness matrix

method for macro-modeling of infilled frames can quickly and effectively model the shear strength response of infilled

frames with openings up to a failure load.

Abstract: Groundwater is an important source of irrigation and drinking water, especially for rural population in small city.

Groundwater can be contaminated by a wide range of sources, include the septic tanks, underground storage tanks,

improperly disposed of industrial wastes, mining waste, fertilizer and pesticides. One particularly common source of

groundwater contamination is a poorly designed or maintained landfill from which liquid waste or leachate, are leaking into

shallow groundwater. This paper investigates the effect of landfill site selection on the contamination of shallow

groundwater, surface water and water well around landfill site. According to the site investigation and laboratory test based

on water samples collected, BOD5, COD, pH, NO3 and EC indications are 10.8 mg/l, 32 mg/l, 7.5, 0.09 mg/l and 461 µhos/cm,

respectively and were higher than standard regulation of water quality. Results from the investigation showed that

groundwater, surface water and urban water-well around landfill area had been contaminated by leaching from solid waste

landfill. Therefore, improvement and increment of quality control of design and operational management landfill are

needed.

Abstract: Biometrics as a method for identification systems has been widely used for its robustness; one of its used is based

on human palm. Palm has unique characteristics to be used in personal identification because of it features, namely palm

print and hand geometry. This paper studied about biometrics of palm for identification system using the physical form of

human hands, represented by the image of the palm. The methodology for palm recognition consisted of block-based line

detection which dealing with palm print feature extraction process, and chain code which solved the hand geometric feature

extraction. We combined those two respective features and recognized it using Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) method which

was able to measure the distance between two different features. The result can be used for personal identification in

authentication systems for information security.

Abstract: Pointing errors is one of the main challenges that face free space optical communication and affects its

performance specially at high range links, in this paper, an evaluation for the pointing error for practical Bit Error Rate is

carried. This is done for an FSO link under different weather conditions at 1.55 µm. Under practical simulation conditions it

was found that maximum pointing error allowed to achieve bit error rate for clear weather can reach 13.53 µ rad, Heavy fog

is found to be the worst weather condition, where small pointing error can lead to link failure.

Abstract: Pakistan is an energy deficient country, where a large fraction of the population still does not have access to

modern day energy services such as electricity. This is due to very limited fossil fuel resources and poor economy, which

restrains the import of fossil fuels on a large scale. To overcome energy shortage, Pakistan needs to develop its indigenous

energy resources like hydropower, solar and wind. Pakistan lies in an area of one of the highest solar insulation in the world.

All this will help in both reducing the import of fossil fuels and dependency of people on fuel wood, which in turn will

provide some respite for the dwindling forest reserves of Pakistan. Accordingly, the status and outlook of solar energy use in

Pakistan is discussed. In addition, the role of Rand D organizations in the promotion of solar energy technologies in Pakistan

is also presented including a description of some proposed projects. It is concluded that the current infrastructure has not

been able to advance the status of solar energy in Pakistan. Significant efforts are needed to effectively utilize this cheap

renewable energy source. Solar power is a term that refers to several alternative sources of energy by which sun-light is

harnessed to do useful work for mankind. People know that it is energy since the same alone implies this but man people

think it is expensive and not a preferred method of producing energy. We need to find out how cost effective it is how useful

Abstract: Traditional biometric systems that based on single biometric usually suffer from problems likeimposters' attack or

hacking, unacceptable error rate and low performance. So the need of using multimodal biometric system occurred .In this

paper, a study of multimodal palm veins and signature identification is presented.Features of both modalities are extracted

by using morphological operations and Scale Invariant Features Transform (SIFT)algorithm and a comparison for both

methods is developed.Feature level fusion for both modalitiesis achieved by using a simple sum rule. Fused features vectors

are subjected to discrete cosine transform (DCT) to reduce their dimensionalities. Linear Vector Quantization (LVQ)

classifier is used with changed parameters to classify the different people in the database. Preliminary results are

encouraging and supporting using palm veins and signature as a robust and reliable identification system.
