Intermediate Listening & Speaking Final presentation Project WHAT? In this project, you will research a person who is considered a hero in the United States. You will look at websites on the computer to find the answers to the questions below about your person, and then prepare a 2 minute presentation about your person to give to the class.

Step #3: Make an outline: Write your outline on a separate piece of paper (see pages138-139

to see an outline)

HOW? Here are some websites that you can use to find photos and information about your person. You can use the information from these websites, but DON’T COPY. You must write the information you found IN YOUR OWN WORDS. You will use the vocabulary we learned this semester in your presentation. www.biography.com

www.wikipedia.com

www.google.com

Step #4: Add your signal phrases into the outline and write the speech: use vocabulary

words from units 2, 4, and 6. Use the grammar from units 2 present tense, 4 Contrast words, 6.

Past tense: Most of the verb tenses will be in the past because the events happened in the past.

REMEMBER: The events happened IN THE PAST, so be sure the verbs that you use when you speak about your person are in SIMPLE PAST TENSE. IF the person is still alive, you will probably use present tense too.

Step #5: You cannot read your speech. You may make some “note cards” where you write

only signal phrases and the important information (see page 137-139).

Step #6: Practice your presentation by using your note cards

Pronunciation counts!!! Unit 2: stressed words in a sentence/ unstressed words Unit 4:

Intonation in questions and statements Unit 6: past tense pronunciation/ signal phrases

**You should also show a photograph of the person when you introduce the person to the class, so find a picture and make an 8 x 10 copy!! .
