The Japanese love to shop!
Their professional salaries are generally higher than the UK and prices reflect this!
Electrical consumer goods tend to be good value but the user guides are in Japanese!
ShoppingJapan is a shopper's paradise, offering everything
from high-tech gadgetry and electronics to traditional arts and crafts.
Large department stores, specialty shops, fashion boutiques, hotel arcades, and shopping centres abound.
Popular buys include cameras, watches, hi-fi equipment, silk goods, lacquer ware, Japanese dolls, and woodblock prints.
Shopping
Duty-free shopping is only available in Japan's international airports but tax-free shopping is possible in urban centres at authorised tax-free stores.
In these stores, purchases of over ¥10,000 on selected items are exempt from Japan's 5% Consumption Tax but it is worth comparing prices at discount stores and bargain markets before you buy.

Put “ya” 屋 after the name of the item being sold to make the shop type. 屋 = shop
nikuya 肉屋 Butcher
sakanaya 魚屋 Fishmonger
kusuriya 薬屋 Pharmacy. kusuri = medicine
hanaya 花屋 Florist. hana = flower
panya パン屋 bakers. pan = bread
Grammar – with particle
to と = with
Add the particle to the entity you are with
Some examples: tomodachi to
友達 と with friend.
kazoku to
家族と with family.

私は昨日家族と日本へ来ました。
With particle - sentence
Yesterday I came to Japan with my family.
kimashita = past tense of to come (came)
With particle - sentence

With particle - sentence
Tomorrow I’m going to London with a friend by taxi to watch a film.
eiga = film (movie)
(2 kanji: reflect + picture)
mimasu = polite form of verb to watch
Grammar – ~te kudasai
The “~te” form of a Japanese verb is present continuous.
In English the “~ing” form
Kudasai = please.
Adding kudasai to the “~te” form of a verb makes a “polite request”
Shopping sentences
sono kamera (w)o misette kudasai.
その カメラを見せてください。
Please show me that camera.
kore (w)o kudasai
これをください。I’ll take it. (literally this please)

No holidays in June but the month of May more than makes up for this with the Golden week.
Trains, airports, and sightseeing spots get very crowded during Golden Week
Tourist accommodation can get booked up well in advance.

May 3rd Constitution Day (kenpo kinenbi): A national holiday remembering the new constitution, which was passed on November 3rd 1946 and went into effect on May 3rd 1947. The new constitution replaced the old Meiji constitution of 1889.
Japanese laws are discussed and passed by their Parliament (Diet).

May 4th Greenery Day (midori no hi): Until 2006, Greenery Day was celebrated on April 29th, the former Emperor Showa's birthday, due to the emperor's love for plants and nature.
Before being declared Greenery Day, May 4th used to be a national holiday due to a law, which declares a day that falls between two national holidays, is itself a national holiday.

May 5th Children's Day (kodomo no hi): Also called boy's festival.
Families pray for the health and future success of their sons by hanging up carp streamers and displaying samurai dolls, both symbolizing strength, power, and success in life.
