The room had to feel refined and luxurious with special attention given to sourcing unique mosaics, lighting and custom joinery. It also had to be unique as well as light and airy.” What luxury items did you choose for this bathroom regardless of budget? “The custom waterjet-cut mosaic floor tiles with brass inlay were purchased with no expense spared from Chicago. The fluted plaster wall behind the bath was custom-made to give a nod to art deco style. Discovered on a shopping trip to Europe, the custom brass hanging vanity lights were imported from Paris.” thomashamel.com [ Millers Point ] GLOBAL GLAMOUR INTERIOR DESIGNER Thomas Hamel & Associates 6 174 BATHROOM

T H O M AS H A M E L blended English character with American charm to deliver a kitchen that was at once functional, inviting and glamorous. “As with the brief for the whole project, the kitchen had to feel ‘international’. The client didn’t want the space to feel like a typical Sydney terrace or traditionally Australian. We took style cues from English joinery details and combined them with a custom American-style rangehood. This room faces west, towards the harbour, and it is a space that the client spends a lot of time in, so it had to feel special and luxe as well as being functional. To take advantage of the sunlight, the client wanted a specific space to lounge in all day. Our solution was the custom banquette under a skylight that serves a triple purpose as a desk, lounge and meals table.” What luxury items did you choose for this kitchen regardless of budget? “The custom Italian farmhouse sink imported from Florence, the custom waterjet mosaic with brass insert for the splashback and custom barstools from Paul Ferrante, which were sourced on a shopping trip to Los Angeles with the client.” thomashamel.com
