A Portal Opens...

In the midst of class activity continuing as usual everyday routine, a strong humming vibration can be felt and heard emanating

from the middle of the room. The sound and feeling of the vibration begins to rapidly increase in frequency and soon...who knows

how long or short of a while as time seems to concentrate then disappear...a small blackish purple orb appears floating in the

center. It goes through a variety of bizarre and unpredictable transformations before stretching out as though squished between

two walls to form a tall oval shape. It appears slightly mirror like and water like and flowing but maintains a strong integrity of

shape. Out of the portal steps the most familiar feeling strange looking creature you have ever seen and they deliver the following

message as they

stroll about the classroom:

GREETINGS from the Intergalactic Multiversity of Magic and Wonder and...CONGRATULATIONS!

Your classroom has been selected via our lottery system to receive the opportunity to participate in our Intergalactic Theater

Correspondence program. We will provide for all necessary transportation and communication needs for closing the distances

between your location(s) and ours, so no need to worry about the exorbitant fees charged by the commercial agencies of “Earth”.

Our Intergalactic Theater Correspondence program is extremely prestigious throughout the multiverse as we know it and whispers

have already been spreading that this is the largest honor ever to have been bestowed upon the so-called “Milky Way” galaxy

where you all reside at present. The point is not to gloat about ourselves; we only mean to make very clear what an honor and rare

occurrence it is to have been selected by our lottery system. And of course, what really matters here is the opportunity for all of

you to build the crucial skills so necessary for surviving and thriving in the Intergalactic Economy of Yesterday-Tomorrow. All

the necessary Objective details for participating in our program will be provided via written communiques and visits by Past-

Future Ambassadors of the Intergalactic Multiversity of Magic and Wonder.

So what is this? ¿Y esto qué es?

*this game/platform/project/theatre work is a method of

organizing our individual and collective study of the Spanish

language

*The meta goals of this game are for everyone to learn how to learn

a language and have fun while doing it, to learn the necessary level

of Spanish, and to pass the class with the best grade possible. The

storyline goal of this game is to collectively get through an

intergalactic apocalypse (aka revelation) and subvert the malicious

plot of the Overgalactic Imperium (El Imperium Sobre Galáctico)

through working with the Intergalactic Multerversity of Magic and

Wonder (La Multiversidad Intergaláctica de la Magia y Maravilla)

*everyone creates individual characters, i.e. fictional persons as in

the sort that exist in works of theater and roleplaying games, who

are masters of the Spanish language in addition to whatever else

each participant (student) decides to create about them

*the introduction and Objectives 1 and 2 remain the same across

Spanish levels 1 and 2

*Objectives 3-10 all share the same storyline prompt but come with

two difficulty levels (1 and 2). The content of difficulty level 1

corresponds to the particular lessons from level one and likewise

for level 2. Students in Spanish 1 have the option of attempting

both difficulty levels and are required to successfully complete DL

(difficulty level) 1. Students in Spanish 2 have the option of

completing DL 1 if they desire for the purpose of review but are

required to complete DL 2 in order to progress.

*Language is magic and words are spells: all grammar and

vocabulary we study through the standard Spanish curriculum of

the class and the additional vocabulary we all encounter through

play are added to individual and collective spell books

*Este juego/plataforma/proyecto/obra de teatro es un método de

organizar nuestros estudios (sea individual o colectivo) de la lengua

española.

*Los metas objetivos de este juego son que todxs aprendan cómo

aprender un idioma y divertirse mientras, que aprendan el nivel

necesario de español y que tengan éxito en la clase con la mejor

nota posible. La meta de la historia del juego es sobrevivir

colectivamente la apocalipsis intergaláctica (tcc revelación) y

subvertir la conspiración maliciosa del Imperium Sobre Galáctico a

How to play // cómo jugar

As outlined in Objective 1, everyone must create a (fictional) character. This character is your personal vehicle for expressing story

in the course of the Intergalactic Theater Correspondence Program. In addition to everything that each player (student) creates

regarding the story of your character, every character is also a master in the Spanish language. There is just one problem: due to

some unknown cause everyone has lost most of their knowledge of the Spanish language. Because of this a great artifact is being

saught by everyone: The Polyglot Index (El Índice Polígloto). The Polyglot Index is an ancient artifact of the Intergalactic

Multiversity for Magic and Wonder (IMMW) which it claims to have created and used in the past to overcome the previous plot

of the Overgalactic Imperium against the multiverse. The Polyglot Index is currently located somewhere on Earth and the cast of

characters and collectives of your classroom has been charged with finding it. The small groups or collectives that everyone forms

as part of Objective 2 function as teams of autonomous agents working in collaboration with the IMMW in the quest to locate

the Polyglot Index and to uncover and subvert the plot of the Overgalactic Imperium. But be careful (¡cuidado!), for all is not

always as it seems nor is everyone always really who they say they are…

To win the game: complete Objectives 1-10 and gain at least 60,000 class XP

Objective #1 – Finding (y)ourself and collective

You have received a very special mission: nothing less than the rescue of the fate of the galaxy and multiverse from an unknown

but certain doom. The secret order of the Overgalactic Imperium has arranged some plot for the extermination or enslavement of

all life to come. Your mission, regardless if you accept it or not, is to identify the nature of this plot and stop it! You now find

yourself far from home (or is it?), on an odd but strangely familiar planet whose English speaking inhabitants often call “Earth.”

Where to begin?

2. Take out a piece of paper (or use the character sheet in the back of this booklet) and write a short (one to five sentence)

response to each of the following questions (in English for now is okay but this will eventually all need to be written en español)

•Who are you? [your name and what world(s), people(s)/culture(s) are you from] ¿Quién eres?

•What are you? [what is your original—non disguised—form] ¿Qué eres?

•Why are you? [what is your purpose and why have you been sent] ¿Por qué eres?

•Where are you? [where on Earth does your mission begin] ¿Dónde estás?

•When are you? [when, i.e. what time period, does your mission begin?] ¿Cuándo estás?

•How do you exist? [how are you surviving and how are you doing?] ¿Cómo existes?

3. On the back of that same piece of paper write down five major skill affinities and ten minor skill affinities. Major skill affinities

are skills that you are extremely naturally talented in and learn much faster than most. Minor skill affinities are skills that you are

also naturally talented in and learn a bit faster than most.

4. Write three special powers that your origins grant you which will aid your mission.

5. Write down one major vulnerability your origins expose you to while on Earth.

6. Add whatever other information you want (back story, preferences and dislikes, human persona etc.) For this step you can

continue to write on your own and/or create through conversation with others, just make sure to remember and eventually write it

down, ¡por favor!
