DESCRIPTION

This presentation will explore the development process and demonstrate the use of Interactive Learning Tools (ILT’s) including; animations, mini-sims, simulations and online laboratories beneficial to online and blended learning. In addition, an Industry Resource Connection (IRC) designed to aid and enhance industries training programs along with a competency based job shadow program will be discussed.

Online and/or Face-to-Face Energy Offerings

• Power Plant Technology – operator education covering a broad array of electrical generation facilities that include; coal, oil, gas turbine/combined cycle, hydro, geothermal and wind.

• Nuclear Power Technology – education focused on meeting INPO requirements for non-licensed operator, maintenance, chemistry and health physics technicians.

• Process Plant Technology – operator education covering a broad array on industrial facilities that include refining, biodiesel, ethanol, food processing, and water treatment.

• Electric Power Technology – technician education focused on the transmission and distribution sectors of the energy industry. Upon completion of core fundamentals students specialize in one of four areas; line construction, metering, system design, and substation operation & maintenance.

• Electrical Transmission Systems Technology – operator education focused on dispatchers and system operators who control the electrical power grid and integration of power generation sources.

• Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Energy Management - the BAS program is designed for individuals interested in supervisory and management positions within the energy industry.

• Renewable Generation Technology (Fall 2010) – operator and technician education covering a broad array of renewable focused generation technologies including; geothermal, solar, wind, biomass, hydro, tidal, and fuel cells.

• Turtle Mountain Community College (TMCC)- General education courses delivered online or face-to-face by TMCC- Non-credit technical courses delivered online by BSC- TMCC transfers in/attaches TMCC credit to BSC technical courses- TMCC students come to BSC over summer term to complete hands-on lab competencies- TMCC grants student an AAS Degree

• Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC)- General education and some technical courses are delivered face-to- face by FVTC- Remaining technical courses delivered online by BSC- Financial aid consortium agreement in place with FVTC as lead institution - FVTC grants the student an AAS Degree

• WebLab is an online laboratory that provides a full power system experience to the student.

• Consists of real equipment starting with two hydro-electric generators to manage the power loads.
