2015 CANDIDATE ADMISSION INFORMATION

The Junior League of Tuscaloosa, Inc. encourages you to reach out to women of all races, religions, & national origins who demonstrate an interest and commitment to voluntarism. This League will not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, or national

origin. No member shall be a member of more than one Junior League at any time.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP PROPOSAL:

A woman is eligible to be proposed for membership if she meets the following criteria:

AGE: The Prospective Member must have reached her twenty-fourth (24th) birthday before the end of May at the end of her Provisional year . RESIDENCY: A Prospective Member may be proposed as either a Resident Prospective Member or a Non-Resident Prospective Member.

(1) A Resident Prospective Member is one who chooses to participate in the Junior League of Tuscaloosa, and resides in Tuscaloosa County at the time of her proposal; or

(2) A Non-Resident Prospective Member is one who no longer lives in Tuscaloosa, but joins the Junior League of Tuscaloosa in order to transfer to a Junior League in the area in which she lives. A Non-Resident Prospective Member must not have resided outside of the Tuscaloosa admissions area for more than five (5) years at the time of her proposal. OTHER: The Prospective Member must have demonstrated an interest in voluntarism, commitment to community service, and an interest in developing her potential for voluntary community service. REQUIREMENTS: The Lead Sponsor must complete the Intent to Sponsor Form (page 2). In addition, the Lead Sponsor must accompany the Prospective New Member to the Pre-Acceptance meeting as well as the May and August general meetings. GUIDELINES FOR SPONSORSHIP:

Guidelines for sponsoring a prospective new member:

1. The Lead Sponsor must determine that the Prospective Member is eligible for membership in the Junior League of Tuscaloosa. Eligibility requirements are listed above.

2. The Lead Sponsor shall ask the Prospective Member’s permission to submit her name for membership. 3. Each Prospective Member must have three (3) Junior League of Tuscaloosa sponsors who meet the following requirements:

a. At least two (2) of the sponsors must be Active Members. b. All Active Member sponsors must be in good standing. c. A Junior League of Tuscaloosa may only serve as Lead Sponsor for two (2) Prospective Members in a single year. d. The Lead Sponsor must submit the Intent to Sponsor Form by noon on February 20th, 2015. e. The Lead Sponsor must accompany the Prospective New Member to the Pre-Acceptance meeting as well as the May and

August general meetings. If the Lead Sponsor cannot attend a meeting with her Provisional candidate, it is the responsibility of the Lead Sponsor to have one of the other sponsors or another member in good standing attend in her stead.

ELIGIBILITY OF SPONSORS

Eligible sponsors include:

1. Members (Active or Sustainer) in good standing; 2. First Year Active Members; and/or 3. Transfer Members.

Ineligible sponsors include:

1. Members on restricted active privilege; 2. Family members—members shall not sponsor daughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, or sisters-in-law; 3. Members taking annual or personal/professional leave during the provisional year of their prospective members; 4. Members who resign during the Provisional year of their Prospective Members; 5. Non-Resident Members; and/or 6. Provisional Members.
