A new world of parking

Drivers, urban planners and private car park operators havetotally different takes on the “parking” issue. It’s a good thing that Siemens offers proven solutions that open up a new world ofparking for everyone. A world where drivers are guided reliablyand on the shortest route to the nearest free parking lot byour systems, which thus help substantially reduce traffic in searchof a parking space and ensure optimum management ofvaluable parking space.

Every parking spacecan be individually addressedOur Sipark SSD system is a professional solution made to industrial standard. “Measuring instead of counting” is itsworking principle. An ultrasound sensorinstalled above every single parking space determines with virtually 100-percentaccuracy if the space is occupied or not. All data are transmitted to the control center in real time. Our multi-colorsensors with a light source that can emit light in six different colors enable theimplementation of a whole range of new functions. For example, individual parking spaces or zones can be reserved at any time for specific user groups and dynamic direction signs guide every driver onthe shortest route to the next available parking space. In case the spaces reserved for a specific user group are occupied,entry can be blocked for this groupexclusively.

100,000 successful applicationsfrom Athens to ZirndorfMore than 100,000 parking spaces in multi-story and underground car parks all over the world are already being mon-itored and controlled in a professional manner by Sipark SSD. For instanceat Munich Airport, as part of the world’s largest parking guidance system. Inthe multi-story and underground car parks of Munich’s two terminals, over 15,000 parking spaces have been equipped with occupancy sensors. But of course, SSD is useful for much smaller applications, too. We have even realized special projects with no more than 10 parking spaces based on this system – to the fullest satis-faction of the customer.

Vehicle theft excludedOur parking systems are also perfectly equipped for special safety and security requirements. At Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, for example, our parkingsolution makes vehicle theft impossible: upon entry, each vehicle’s licenseplate is automatically recorded and then associated on the software level with the parking ticket just issued to the vehicle’s driver. Thus any vehicle can only passthe exit gate by means of the right park-ing ticket. In this car park, vehicle theft is definitely excluded.

Car park systems for more convenience and faster processingOur Sipark PMA barrier-paystation systems considerably speed up entry, paymentand exit procedures. From loop detectors and access control equipment right upto barriers, pay stations and management systems – everything about Sipark PMAis designed for expedient processing,simple handling and prompt support.A few examples: The entry barrier opens – and closes – within one and a halfseconds. Of the 10,000 tickets that can be stored in the entry unit, each takesonly 1.9 seconds to print – a record time.And because the entry and exit units themselves are equipped to accept value, credit and long-term user cards, manycar park users don’t even need to go and look for a paystation before leaving again.

Three families, one systemOur portfolio includes three productfamilies of pay-and-display machines, eachof which has been designed for meeting specific key requirements. One familyis equipped with an especially effective vandalism protection (Sitraffic Sicuro);another scores with its distinctive design and its use as an advertising medium(Sitraffic Prisma); the third family com-prises particularly flexible high-endsolutions (Sitraffic Sity). In more than 20 countries, over 20,000 of these pay-and-display machines are already installed – some of them have been serving reliably for 15 years now.

No data cable,no external power supplyOur pay-and-display machines can gen-erate their own electric power and carry out all data transmission tasks with-out any external cabling – thanks to anintegrated solar panel and modern mobileradio links according to GSM or GPRSstandard. This substantially reduces the costs for installation and operationand, in addition, enables convenientremote monitoring of all pay-and-display machines right from the central office. With our powerful software tools, tech-nical monitoring and remote config-uration of the machines can be executed “with a click of the mouse.”

Large choice of payment modesCoins, banknotes, EC cards, “electronic purse” or credit cards – our pay-and-dis-play machines can be equipped to accept the widest variety of payment means,depending on customer requirements. The particular advantages of cashless payment make for added convenience and security: The customers benefit because they can always pay the exact amount without rummaging for coins; andthe operators benefit because the money is immediately credited to their accounts and there are no cash boxes needingto be exchanged. In cities with a high crime rate, cashless payment facilities are a decisive plus.

Always on the safe sideSafety and security – a multi-facettedtopic with pay-and-display machines: the units must provide cashless paymentfacilities, they must be able to brave the elements for long-term value retention – and they must be safely protected against vandalism, manipulation and theft. When it comes to meeting all these demands, our units are an excellent choice. They are housed in strong stainless-steel casings, their powder-coated surfaces are treated with an effective anti-graffiti protection, and strong-boxes can be incorporatedon request. Sitraffic Sicuro meets allcriteria for security level P3 according to the most recent requirements for pay-and-display machines.

For municipal authorities, the commercial management of public parking facilities is not only a source of income, but above allan effective traffic policy tool. Because parking fee levels havedirect traffic regulating effects! With the pay-and-display machines provided by Siemens, it is no art to successfully reach thesegoals. On top of that, their attractive design enhances the visual appearance of public space.

And both paid in one goSitraffic Epos-P is an electric chargingsystem designed especially for usein public areas, but also in multi-story car parks and other parking facilities. Thesystem can be seamlessly integratedin the parking space management system and supports a wide variety of business models. It is possible, for instance,to offer combined parking and recharging tariffs or flat fees. Parking and charging fees can both be paid at one paystationor pay-and-display machine, making things easy for the user.

Satellite concept saves spaceTo facilitate the installation of charging stations at a large number of individual parking spaces, we designed our charging system according to a satellite concept.In an e-park zone, every single parking space can be equipped with a charging option at affordable cost: as stand-alone or wall-mounted unit, for recharginge-cars and two-wheeled electric vehicles such as e-bikes or e-scooters. These satel-lites are only “in charge of” recharging,for payment the driver goes to the central station. As “standardized” completesolution, we offer combined chargingstations for e-cars and two-wheeledelectric vehicles. But there are virtually no limits to the available combinations.

Easy to useAll drivers know how to buy a parkingticket, how to use an automated tellermachine and how to refuel their cars. And that’s all they need to know to usethe “Park & Charge” function of SitrafficEpos-P! The charging stations are equipped with a graphical display and well protected against vandalism. An intuitive display design and easy-to-understandinstructions guide the user throughthe process, effectively preventing usererrors.

All functions of aSitraffic pay-and-display machineSitraffic Epos-P does not only look like a pay-and-display machine, it also offersthe same range of functions. It can printreceipts, for instance, and offers allpayment options from coins and bills to debit and credit cards; it can be combined with a solar module for autonomouspower supply and is fully linked up with the SityControl back office system, forefficient administration and flexible tariff adaptation right from the office.

Unfairness excludedToday, the number of e-vehicles on our streets is still limited. Accordingly itmakes sense to install a charging system with combined parking and charging functions like our Sitraffic Epos-P because then no valuable parking space mustbe reserved exclusively for e-vehicles. Any driver can use any parking space,for parking only or for “Park & Charge.”

Up-to-the-minute informationis the best decision supportWherever Sitraffic Guide is deployed, parking-related traffic ceases to be a prob-lem. The drivers are informed in good time on the current occupancy levels of the various parking lots and car parks, allowing them to plan their route accord-ingly and reach their destination in the shortest time possible. The community benefits in several ways from this system: occupancy levels of less frequentedparking lots and car parks are increased and the attractiveness of the inner city is considerably enhanced.

Parking guidance systemsbeyond island solutionsUntil recently, parking guidance systems were usually operated as separate installa-tions. Integrating them on the dataprocessing level with the municipality’s other traffic systems was often too com-plicated and rather costly. With ourSitraffic traffic computer and traffic man-agement systems, such island solutions are a thing of the past! Our parkingguidance system can be fully integratedin higher-level traffic systems and simplyoperated as sub-system. And it doesn’t matter which component is installedfirst – the systems are open to expansion in any direction.

No matterif two car parks and a single display panel need to be controlled, or twenty parking facilities and several hundreds of panels – the highly flexible and finely modular structure of Sitraffic Guide can be easily tailored to any task.

Reserve a space from your PC at homeThe networking of all traffic systemson the data processing level and the use of Internet technology allows the real-ization of completely new applications. More and more municipal authorities are making up-to-the-minute traffic infor-mation available on the Internet. Ofspecial practical value is a system function that efficiently supports our parkingsystems: Via the Internet, it is possibleto reserve a parking space in a particularcar park. If this car park is equippedwith our individual parking space monitor-ing, customers can even choose a precise parking space, for example one thatis close to the exit they plan to use. Such convenient applications are only made possible by the inclusive integrationof all data flows – information is trulyeverything.

Information is everything

Up to 40 percent of inner city traffic is caused by drivers lookingfor a parking space – even at normal times. On the Saturdaysbefore Christmas, the proportion may easily soar to 90 percent and cause general gridlock. Making information on vacant parking space already available at the city’s perimeter on the major arterial roads will substantially reduce parking-related traffic.
