To Influence Change
by thinking beyond the horizon of the current technology &
innovation constraints; addressing problems related to the
slow progress in the evolution of efficient transport with
Systems of Systems approach towards
Multi-Modality & True Intelligence.

Smart Cities -New & Old infrastructure
• New: Offering a unique opportunity to implement the
Future Model of - ‘Seamless Travel’
e.g. Arab Region
• Old: Many barriers & challenges - e.g. London, EUo current infrastructure, o migration from legacy systems, o take up of new systems & processes by transport system
managers & operators.

Benefits:
•Promoting social inclusion and regeneration leading to economic prosperity and demographic growth. This will be achieved by providing efficient transport links, multimodal travel choices and accessibility on a national and international level. •Safer travel - to reduce traffic congestion and road fatalities.•Healthier travel - to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improved network management thereby improving air quality.
Future Vision of iMobility in Arabia – Why?- No Legacy systems
- Every New City should be an Intelligent City
- Lesson learned – Avoiding repeating mistakes – using world wide expertise for future mid- long term planning
Not all Arab countries have funding capabilities to support these programmes.
However, the market value and success of future services and applications has better chance if the region advances in uniform manner following unified strategy and standards.
Tunis 20 June 2012 iMobility: Future Vision @ ITU: ICT Innovation for Development Countries 10
To Develop a Strategy that ensures the deployment of sustainable, integrated, cost effective ITSS that
supports a growing economy & the
rapid changes in Transport Technology

To identify requirements, problems & appropriate solutions in line with international standards, for the adaptation & support of intelligent transport systems & services deploymentTo generate guidelines, for example with regards to:
• What are the required & applicable future technologies, applications and services ?
• Gradual & efficient implementation of future technologies such as cooperative systems with consideration to social, economic & cultural needs- (Infrastructure, Personal & Commercial)
• Multimodal Information: Management, Presentation & Choice .

An ITS Deployment Plan has to respond to the following questions:
• ITS Architecture: What ITS services do we need to deploy?
• Roadmap: How, Where and When to implement them?
Tunis 20 June 2012 iMobility: Future Vision @ ITU: ICT Innovation for Development Countries 17
Conclusion
The decisions of what to deploy next may not follow
a priority criteria but available budget.
Hence, the question is:
•How to make the most of the current infrastructure?
And
•Where to invest to achieve harmonization and return
on investment?

Thank you
Truly Intelligent Systems – How To?
Aim to Change Behaviour (or the way of thinking) not only of end users but
all stakeholders by:
•Reduce the need for Mobility
•Cost Saving by Harmonised Deployment
Future Vision > Strategy > Polices & Guidelines > Planning > Design >Deployment >
Monitoring > On-Going Evaluation
•Identifying & Clarifying Benefits to Users (travellers & operators..)
•Intelligent Mobility Infrastructure (funding)
•Knowledge Transfer for example by o Adequate training for systems operators ….o Bridging The Gap between Research, Business and Industrial worlds
