TYPES OF INTELLIGENCE TESTS
BINET-SEMON TEST/INTELLIGENT QUOTIENT ( IQ) Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon believed
intelligence to be a learned entity. This test was formed in order to measure intelligence of children in accordance with their age. The test was used and varied among children from the ages of 3 years to 12 years. (Binet & Simon, 1905) Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon believed that children had a different form of intelligence than adults; therefore, they needed to be measured in a different way.
Levels of Classification:
Average: mental age matches chronological age
Advanced: mental age is higher than chronological age
Retarded: mental age is lower than chronological age.
IQ = MA*100/CA
LEVELS IQ Idiot 0-25 Imbecile 26-50 Moron 51-70 Borderline 71-80 Low normal 81-90 Normal 91-110 Superior 110-120 Very superior 121-130 Genious/near genious 140 and above
WECHSLER ADULT INTELLIGENCE SCALE (WAIS): The Wechsler Adult Intelligence
Scale (WAIS) is a test designed to measure intelligence in adults and older adolescents. It is currently in its fourth edition (WAIS-IV). The original WAIS (Form I) was published in February 1955 by David Wechsler, as a revision of the Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale that had been released in 1939.
Versions of the WAIS There have been four different versions
of the WAIS: WAIS (1955) WAIS-R (1981) WAIS-III (1997) WAIS-IV (2008)
The Current Version The current version of the WAIS was
released in 2008 and includes ten core subtests as well as five supplemental subtests.
The test provides four major scores:
Verbal Comprehension Perceptual Reasoning Working Memory Processing Speed
Additionally, the WAIS-IV provides two overall summary scores:
Full Scale IQ General Ability Index
APTITUDE: An aptitude is the ability to
learn or to develop proficiency in an area (if provided with appropriate education or training). It is like talent. Examples are various types of reasoning, artistic ability, motor coordination, musical talent.
