Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It was lovely to see so many mums and other
special friends at the Elmore Health and
Wellbeing community celebration at the Elmore
Hall yesterday. Everyone seemed to have a
lovely time participating in the activities. Thank
you to Elmore IGA for supplying delicious fruit!
Students participated in the Cluster Cross
Country on Monday afternoon at the Elmore
Events Centre. There were some outstanding efforts made by several students.
Everyone gave their best and had a great time.
On Tuesday, Student Representative Council members interviewed Travis at the
bakery to find out as much information as they could about how to make the
perfect Hedgehog in preparation for our competition on the weekend. We found
out lots of interesting information, for example, Travis has used caramel in his
recipe before and his favourite colour is red. We also taste-tested the
hedgehog at the bakery to make sure he really did know what he’s doing, and it
turns out, it was delicious!
I know lots of people will be entering the competition on Saturday! I’ll be
looking forward to seeing you all here, ready to go by 11:00am. Remember, it’s
only $2.00 to enter and you can just turn up on the
day.
Enjoy your weekend,
Michelle Griffiths
Principal.

Wise Owl News
This week students have been developing their
understanding of writing persuasively using the topics of favourite food and greatest super power. Students have really demonstrated
their enjoyment for writing about these topics. Some great examples have included, the most delicious family lasagne as the best food
ever and mind reading as the greatest super power available. Students will be continuing to explore emotive language and
conjunctions (joining words) within this topic in order to develop their persuasive writing further.
During numeracy this week students have been working on telling the time to the nearest minute and increasing their understanding
of using a range of strategies, allowing them to solve worded math problems. This will support many students in the coming weeks
during assessments.
Our school participated in the Cluster Cross Country this week with all our students showing fantastic resilience and sportsmanship.
Some students competed a course for the first time, with others running long distances without stopping. We were all very proud of
our students for their participation on the day. Well done to all our wonderful participants!
We also had our annual Mother’s Day event at the Town Hall. Students collaborated with OLSH students to create some wonderful
‘crafty’ gifts to present to someone special in their lives. This was again a fantastic opportunity for our students to show their
appreciation through a really meaningful exercise.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Tiddalicks News
Firstly, I just wanted to congratulate all of the students on their efforts at the cluster cross country. You all showed resilience and
determination to do your absolute best and I couldn’t be more proud. Watching you cheer each other on (and also other students from
other schools) made me incredibly proud to be part of such a wonderful community. Congratulations on all your efforts! You should all
be very proud of yourselves!
Our SMART spelling focus has been the graph /y/ that makes the ‘e’ sound as in pony. The preps have been learning l/g/b/d and it has
been tricky. We will continue to work on these next week. If anyone is free from 9:00-9:15 I would really love some volunteer readers
to read with some of my students.
The Premiers’ Reading challenge is well and truly happening! If you have read a book please add it onto the list or write it down and
give it to me. I am more than happy to enter ALL of the books you have been reading! We read so much at EPS and I think the premiers
reading challenge is an excellent way of documenting this.
In numeracy, we have been looking at number problems in different forms. We worked through an old NAPLAN test to see what
strategies we could use to work through the questions (I was very impressed by the problem solving skills we used to work out some of
these tricky questions). We have also been leaning about coins, specifically the similarities and differences between them. We have
also been learning the proper mathematical terms for money (currency). I’m excited to unpack this further over the next week.
Mrs Cowan (our art teacher) was good to us this week and brought along a guest artist, Kaye Poulton from Maroopna. She is a
professional potter and spent some time with both classes teaching them skills. Our work will be fired and returned to school next
week. I’m looking forward to seeing the final results.
Enjoy your well-earned rest and I’ll see you all on Mon-
day.

The Great Elmore Hedgehog
Bake-Off Competition Anyone can enter.
We have some very special celebrity Judges too—Nathan and Travis from the Elmore Bakery. They are total
experts, so they’ll know how to pick the winner!
We interviewed them this week to get to the bottom of what a great Hedgehog Slice should look, smell and taste
like.
When we researched it, we found lots of different ideas, like putting marshmallows or clinkers in, icing the top,
using coconut or 100s and 1000s on top and even one of them had cherry ripe slice under the chocolate layer!
First Prize is a $20.00 voucher for Elmore Bakery and a very special ‘chef’s gift pack’, including great cook books
and other cooking related items. We will share a picture next week.
Ms Telford and Ms Griffiths are both convinced they will win. We’ll see about that!
Start cooking everyone!

Ingredients
250g of plain biscuits - Marie or similar
2 x 200g packs of Tim Tam Biscuits
200g of butter
3 tbsp of cocoa
4 tbsp of dessicated coconut
1 x 395g tin of condensed milk
200g of milk chocolate
Instructions
1. Line a 20cm x 20cm square cake tin (which has high
sides) with baking paper. Make sure you leave plenty of
baking paper hanging over the edges to help you remove the
Tim Tam Hedgehog Slice once it has set.
2. Roughly chop SIX of the Tim Tams into large pieces and
set aside.
3. Place the plain biscuits into a food processor and blitz until they have just broken up, then add the
remaining whole Tim Tams (approximately 1 ½ packs) and blitz for 5 seconds or until they have
broken into large chunks - alternatively you can simply crush the plain biscuits with a rolling pin and
roughly chop the Tim Tams with a large knife.
4. Place the crushed biscuits into a large bowl and set aside.
5. Pour the condensed milk into a small saucepan and add the butter and cocoa. Cook over a low heat
stirring occasionally until the butter has melted and combined with the other ingredients.
6. Pour the melted ingredients into the bowl with the crushed biscuits and add the coconut. Working
quickly, use a large metal spoon to mix the ingredients together.
7. Pour the mixture into your prepared tin and flatten the surface with the back of a spoon.
8. Break the milk chocolate into squares and place it into a microwave safe bowl. Cook in the
microwave on high for 30 second spurts (mixing in between) until it's just melted. Pour over the top of
the slice and sprinkle the Tim Tams you set aside earlier over the top. Place the Tim Tam Hedgehog
Slice into the fridge for 6 hours (preferably overnight) to set before cutting into squares.
