For the social, intellectual,

emotional and physical needs to be met and for a child to have a

complete educational

experience all subjects must be

integrated.

Integration

Integration of music allows students to

develop brain areas involved in language,

reasoning, and creativity as well as an

appreciation for other cultures.

Music

The article, Music in the Classroom, highlights the importance of

integrating music with academic subjects as “…one way to salvage some of its strengths

and to enrich the entire curriculum.”

(Prescott, 2005)

Music

Within the arena of linking music to the other subjects I see rings, like the Olympic

rings. They are all individual, equally important and

relevant on their own, but slightly

overlapped they show their connectiveness. As a result all the subjects are more

interesting, and more relevant.

Integration of trade books allow students to connect their own experiences to the academic learning

experience.

The article, Themes and Literature Circles, references the

increase of integrating trade books into math, science, social studies and other content areas.

It states, “By drawing on the natural relationships among

subjects, students can see how the curriculum connects to the

world around them.” http://eduscapes.com/ladders/themes/index.htm

This article, as well as another great class I’ve taken, opened

my eyes to using children's literature in ways other than in

a stereotypical reading text environment. It makes so

much sense and will create a more enriched learning

experience for the student, and for that matter, the

teacher.

Integration of physical education into the

classroom allows students to understand the

connection between health and wellness.

Physical Movement

Page 11: Integration Pp

The organization PE4Life advocates for integration of physical education

into all aspects of a student’s life. They illustrate the connection

between health and wellness with respect to childhood issues of obesity, attention deficit and

depression. They also link physical education to academic

improvement.

Physical Movement

I loved that this organization has a goal for physical

education to “Extend beyond the walls of the gymnasium”

and “Ideally, be offered to every child every day“.

Physical Movement

Many factors go into shaping the education, and life, of the whole

child.

Imagine the difference we can

make!
