integrating technology as part of the office re-design – featuring et group - june 24, 2014
DESCRIPTION
Technological advances are catalysts for change in any business, and those changes are happening at a faster pace than ever before. Technology is transforming who we are able to work with and how we work with them, so it can no longer be considered an afterthought when designing the workplace. In this seminar, you'll learn how to assess your space for technology and how to incorporate technology into your re-designed workspace, optimize collaborative technology tools in today's office environments and maximize return on those investments. HATCH Toronto, Ontario
Only 13% of employees
across 142 countries
worldwide are engaged
in their jobs — that is,
they are emotionally
invested in and focused on
creating value for their
organizations every day
Companies with
disengaged employees
have between 30% and
50% higher turnover
than their counterparts.
However, engaged
employees can improve
your company’s bottom
line by as much as 19%
At any given time,
roughly one third of
employees in private and
public sectors are
working remotely. Only
30 to 40% of workers
with assigned spaces are
actually using them
More than 90% of a
company’s operating
costs are linked to
human resources, and
financial losses due to
absenteeism and
presenteeism account for
4%
WPPToronto, Ontario
A 2 to 5% increase in
staff performance can
cover the total cost of
providing for their
accommodation
Employee productivity in
the knowledge economy
is less a matter of
improving speed and
accuracy of routine
tasks; but, more a
function of generating
new ideas, being creative,
working effectively in
teams, and generating
knowledge that adds value
to the organization
For each 15% increase
in workspace
satisfaction, a 1%-4%
increase in productivity
can be assumed, per self-
reported productivity
data
Daylighting design has
also been linked to a
15% reduction in
absenteeism in office
environments. Increases in
productivity of between
2.8% and 20% attributed
to increased illuminance
levels have also been
found in other studies;
When working in
environments with white
noise, improvements of
38% and 27% are
reported in the
performance of simple
tasks and complex tasks
respectively, as
compared to tasks in
unmasked noise
conditions;
The potential impact for
buildings on overall
productivity is +12.5
percent (improved
performance) and -17
percent (hampered
performance) for an
overall 30 percent change
in employee performance
in the best and worst
buildings.

Creating the healthiest possible work environment is paramount to achieving optimal levels of employee productivity, happiness, and performance. The building industry stance regarding health and sustainability in work environments must evolve, and in the greater interest of human health.
