High-performancedesignTheICLcombinesourrenownedcentrifugalcompressortechnologywithanelectricmotordriverinasingle,completelysealedcasingthatprovidesanefficient,easilyinstalled,andenvironmentallyfriendlycompressionsolutionforoilandgasapplicationsupto16MW.

ICL’ssmall,lightweightyetpowerfulpackageisaresultofBHGE’suniqueabilitytobringtogetherprovensolutionsfromtheoilandgas,aviation,andpowergenerationindustries.Allthesetechnologieshavebeenfullyproveninthemostdemandingconditions,andourwell-knowncompressortechnologieshaveachievedmanymilestonesfortheproduction,transportation,andprocessingsectorsoftheoilandgasindustry.

CentrifugalcompressorBoththemultistageandthesingle-stageICLcompressorcasingsaredirectlyflangedontothemotor,avoidinganyalignmentrequirements.Thesingle-stageICLcompressorrotorusesasingleimpeller,directlymountedonthemotorshaftthroughahirthcoupling.ThemultistageICLcompressorrotorfeaturesashaftonwhichuptonineimpellerscanbestacked.Therotorisconnectedtothemotorthroughaflexiblecoupling,eliminatingtheneedforcomplextuningofthebearingsystemandsimplifyingfuturerewheelingofthecompressor.TheICLdesignincorporatesBHGE’slatesttechnologicaladvances,includingourhigh-performanceimpellerdesigntodeliverthebestefficiency,flexibility,andoperatingrange.

MinimizedmaintenanceThankstotheAMBsystemthateliminatespartscontactandwear,aswellastheabsenceoflubeoilsystemsanddrygasseal,theICLmaintenancerequirementsaresignificantlyreduced.Asaresult,theICLboastshigherreliabilityand40%lowerrequestedmaintenancethanaconventionalcompressor.

ZeroemissionsTheICLisacleanapproachtocompression.Thereisnosealleakagefromthecompletelyclosedcase,nodepressurizationisrequiredonshutdown,andtheAMBsrequirenolubrication,sotherearenolubricantleaksandnooiltodisposeof.

ElectricmotoranddriveThecompressorisdrivenbyhigh-speedmotorandhigh-frequencydrivetechnologyfromGEPowerConversion.Thepressurized,inductionmotorincludesalaminatedrotorwithasquirrelcage—adesignprovenbymorethanfourmillionoperatinghoursinindustry-wideapplications.Thedriveishighlyefficientoveraverywideoperatingrange,withthesamehardwarecapableofdrivingthemotoratlowspeedsandallthewayupto300Hz.

ActivemagneticbearingsWithAMBtechnology,therotorislevitatedbyacontrolsystemthatpreciselyregulatestherotorspacingtoavoidallpartscontactandfriction.Thiseliminatestheneedforlubricanttherebysolvingtheproblemofleak-pronelubeoilsystemsusedwithconventionalbearings.TheAMBdesignmaintainsrotorlevitationduringstarts,normaloperation,andstopsincludingemergencyshutdowns.Ballbearingback-upallowsthemachinetostopwithoutdamage.

Proven versatility and reliability

TheIntegrated Compressor Line (ICL)fromBakerHughes,aGEcompany(BHGE),istheidealsolutionwhenhighefficiency,smallfootprint,andlownoiseareimportant.Thedesignsdrawonmorethan100yearsofexperienceandinnovationtodeliverprovencompressionperformanceinupstream,midstream,anddownstreamcleangasapplications.

Insteadofacombustionengine,ICLhasahigh-speedelectricmotorfullyintegratedwiththecompressorinasingle-sealedcasing.It’sahigh-efficiencyinductionmotor,provenbyfourmillionhoursofsuccessfuloperationover15years.Therotorislevitatedbyactivemagneticbearings(AMBs)andaprecisioncontrolsystem.Thiseliminatespartscontactandwear,lubeoilsystems,anddrygasseals—sotherearenofluidstoleakordisposeof,andnodepressurizationrequiredonshutdown.

Theseunitshaveamuchwideroperatingrangethanconventionalcompressors:35-105%ofnominalspeedversusthetypical70-105%—andtheICL’sefficiencyremainshighandstableovertheentirerange.With40%lowerrequestedmaintenancethanconventionalcompressors,ICLprovidesexceptionalreliabilityandavailability,nomatterwhereit’sinstalled.Anditdoesallthiswhileproducingzeroemissions.

Intheoffshoreenvironmentweightandfootprintarelimited.Bysavingupto60%inspaceandfootprint,theICLcanreducestructurecost,avoidadditionaldeckspacerequirements,orlimitplatformsizerequirements.TheICLrunsonmagneticbearingsandavoidsdrygasseals.Thus,itdoesnotrequireoilanddoesnothavecontinuousgasleakage.Thisdramaticallyimprovessafetybylimitingtheriskoffire.TheICLpackagedesignissimple,widelyaccessible,andapproximatelyhalf

thesizeofaconventionalcompressor.Themotorandcompressorcasingareflangedtightlytogethersotheunitdoesnotrequirethree-pointskidmounting.Removingcomplexauxiliariessuchasthelubeoilsystemanddrygassealpanelreducesmaintenancedowntime,simplifiesthenoiseenclosuredesign,andreducestheamountofnoiseproducedtomeeteventhetoughestregulations.

ICL’scompactdesigngreatlyenhancesbrownfieldupgradepossibilitiesbyminimizinginstallationcost,time,andspacerequirements.Onceinstalled,itincreasesproductivitythroughsignificantlylowermaintenancerequirements.Therearenofrictionpoints,sotheICLcanstartandstopquickly,andit’swellsuitedforgasnetworkmanagementandunmannedstationsinremotelocations.Producingabouthalfthenoiseofatraditional

product,ICLisalsoabetterfitwithitssurroundingenvironment;andthere’snooilorgasleakage,whichfurtherimprovesEHSperformance.It’sextremelyflexibleandefficient—onemachineperformsbothinjectionandwithdrawal—minimizingenergyconsumptionwhileproducingnoNOxorCO2emissions.
